/ Why are some environmental risks distributed disproportionately in the neighborhoods of the minorities and the poor? A hypothesis was proposed in a recent study that market dynamics contributed to the current environmental inequity. That is, locally unwanted land uses (LULUs) make the host communities home to more poor people and people of color. This hypothesis was allegedly supported by a Houston case study, whereby its author analyzed the postsiting changes of the socioeconomic characteristics of the neighborhoods surrounding solid waste facilities. I argue that such an analysis of postsiting changes alone is insufficient to test the causation hypothesis. Instead, I propose a conceptual framework for analysis of environmental equity dynamics and causation. I suggest that the presiting neighborhood dynamics and the characteristics of control neighborhoods be analyzed as the first test for the causation hypothesis. Furthermore, I present theories of neighborhood change and then examine alternative hypotheses that these theories offer for explaining neighborhood changes and for the roles of LULUs in neighborhood changes. These alternative hypotheses should be examined when analyzing the relationship between LULUs and neighborhood changes in a metropolitan area. Using this framework of analysis, I revisited the Houston case. First, I found no evidence that provided support for the hypothesis that the presence of LULUs made the neighborhoods home to more blacks and poor people, contrary to the conclusion made by the previous study. Summary The leaf gland volatile oils of ten sweet gale plants from a Scottish population were extracted in early summer. The results differed notably from reports of other populations in respect of the sesquiterpenes, -elemenone and germacrone, which were major components of the volatile oil. Three dihydrochalcones were also detected in the volatile oil. Variation within the population existed, particularly with respect to the relative importance of germacrone. Five plants were resampled in late summer and exhibited a marked reduction in -elemenone, a lesser reduction in germacrone and changes in the proportions of some monoterpenes.  相似文献

针对非均相芬顿传质效率低和Fe(Ⅲ)Fe(Ⅱ)转化慢导致活性低等问题,采用溶剂热法制备铁铜双金属有机骨架材料[MIL-101(Fe,Cu)],并研究了材料界面性质、催化降解染料(亚甲基蓝)性能以及活化催化机制.结果表明,MIL-101(Fe,Cu)晶体结构完整且呈三维八面体形状;比表面积和平均孔径分别为667.2 m2 ·g-1和1.9 nm,可充分暴露反应活性位点.MIL-101(Fe,Cu)在广谱pH范围可活化H2 O2高效降解亚甲基蓝.当pH=5、反应20 min,MIL-101(Fe,Cu)/H2 O2对20 mg ·L-1亚甲基蓝的去除率为100%,较MIL-101(Fe)/H2O2和单独H2 O2分别提高43.1%和88.9%.自由基猝灭实验与反应前后铁和铜价态变化结果表明,羟基自由基(·OH)是MIL-101(Fe,Cu)/H2 O2催化降解亚甲基蓝的主要活性物种;Cu(Ⅱ)掺杂引入新的活性位点,且Cu(Ⅱ)/Cu(Ⅰ)循环和Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ)循环可协同产生·OH,进而提高催化效率.MIL-101(Fe,Cu)作为新型非均相类芬顿催化剂,无需复杂pH调节即可获得良好催化效果,在工业废水处理上具有较好地应用前景.  相似文献

采用遥感尾气测试系统实测了柴油车在实际道路工况下的CO、HC和NO排放特征,修正了排放因子的计算方法,并与车载排放测试系统(PEMS)实测结果进行了验证,获得了实测车辆的CO、HC和NO排放因子.测试结果显示,在各种遥感监测的工况下柴油车尾气中均含有较高浓度的氧气,未考虑氧气影响的燃烧方程反演获得的各污染物体积浓度计算值与PEMS实测值的偏差较大,且氧气浓度越大,偏差越大.经过氧气修正的燃烧方程反演计算的尾气浓度与PEMS实测值吻合度大幅提升,适用于实际工况下遥感检测车辆尾气的反演计算.修正算法得到CO、HC和NO的排放因子离散性较小,精确度较高,可以为量化柴油车尾气排放贡献提供科学依据.  相似文献

制备了以KNbO3为载体材料的Co(OH)2复合材料并对其进行了详细的表征,分析了材料的组成成分、组成形态进而确定了其为核壳结构形貌的KNbO3@Co(OH)2.利用合成的样品作为催化剂活化过一硫酸盐(peroxymonosulfate,PMS)来降解帕珠沙星(pazufloxacin,PZF),结果表明制备的催化剂对PZF的去除效率显著增加.讨论了不同初始PMS剂量对降解效率的影响,发现随着PMS增加可活化生成更多的硫酸根自由基(sulfate radicals,SO4·-)和羟基自由基(hydroxyl radicals,HO·)来降解PZF,但继续增大PMS用量降解效率未见明显提升.酸性和中性pH值条件下利于反应活化PMS降解PZF,而碱性体系减缓反应,甚至强碱体系更易形成Co(OH)2沉淀不利于反应体系中活性组分CoOH+的形成,大大抑制了催化性能.此外,在体系中加入淬灭剂叔丁醇(tert-Butanol,TBA)或者乙醇(ethanol,ETOH)进行自由基的淬灭实验,结果表明SO4·-自由基为体系降解PZF过程中主要贡献的自由基,而HO·自由基的贡献较少.催化剂具有较好的稳定性5次循环之后仍能在10 min之内完全去除PZF.本研究提出了新的思路为制备其他载体的Co(OH)2核壳结构提供参考依据,同时将该催化剂结合高级氧化技术应用到水体新兴有机污染物净化领域具有很好的应用前景.  相似文献

利用便携式车载排放测试系统(PEMS)对2辆加装氧化催化转化器(DOC)和催化型柴油颗粒捕集器(CDPF)与否的国III重型柴油货车进行实际道路排放测试.结果表明,2辆改造重型柴油车的CO、THC、固态颗粒物粒数(SPN)和黑碳(BC)实际道路排放因子分别为(1.31±0.37)g/(kW×h)、(0.20±0.03) g/(kW×h)、(7.13×1010±5.27×1010)个/(kW×h)和(0.69±0.06)mg/(kW×h),相对于原始排放(拆除DOC+CDPF)分别降低52.48%、55.69%、99.91%和99.22%.从低速、中速到高速,CO和THC减排比例呈现上升趋势,然而运行工况对SPN和BC减排比例则无显著影响.加装DOC+CDPF会导致NO2在NOx中的占比升高,且从低速、中速到高速涨幅依次增大,但对NOx无明显减排效益,其排放因子为9.53~9.83g/(kW×h),远高于实验室排放限值.  相似文献

Effect of various concentrations of humic acid (0.2 to 1%) on thebioavailability of -HCH in vegetative clones of theaquatic fern Marsilea minuta was studied in a staticexperimental bioassay system on different photoperiods. Additionof humic acid showed the reduction in the bioavailability of-HCH in all the photoperiods (72 hr light to 144 hrlight) at the interval of 16 hr light (L) and 8 hr dark (D) inboth aerial and submerged portion as compared to controlindicating its protective role in toxicity.  相似文献

The green alga Selenastrum capricornutum expresses a uniqueascorbate peroxidase, that responds to copper and lead. Attemptswere made to test if this peroxidase could be used to monitor thelevels of copper and lead in natural waters. When S.capricornutum was exposed to a stormwater sample, the specificactivity of the peroxidase in the cell extract was commensuratewith the combined copper and lead contents in the sample. Theperoxidase responses were also correlated with the 96 hr biomasstoxicity assay of S. capricornutum. However, unlike thebiomass toxicity assay, the peroxidase activity was not affectedby the anions in the samples. The use of this peroxidase can beused as a marker for testing heavy metal toxicity in the water.  相似文献

An optimization model for land reservation was developed that explicitly selects parcels in the most compact or contiguous manner possible while meeting habitat requirements and a budget limitation. The model was used to compare the effects of an existing reserve network on future parcel spatial locations and total cost. Using habitat and land value data from Josephine County, Oregon, it was found that a system of existing reserves created by various policies and overseen by different agencies can decrease future reserve compactness and contiguity, and increase total cost. This work suggests that coordinated planning can result in more efficient conservation efforts for less cost.  相似文献
