The Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP) is a unique, community-based program initiated by Environment Canada in 1991 to help Atlantic Canadians restore and sustain watersheds and adjacent coastal areas. ACAP is the eastem-most Environment Canada Ecosystem Initiative. The ACAP family is currently made up of 14 ecosystem-based organizations in the four Atlantic provinces. Each one of these non-profit organizations operates independently, but is formally linked under the umbrella of ACAP to represent a force stronger than the individual parts. In Environment Canada's experience, the program consistently demonstrates the value of a community-based approach and produces results on an ecosystem basis. This paper will examine some of the impacts of ACAP in terms of economics, credible community science, and environmental results which most often align with Environment Canada's objectives. It will explore the influences of the community-based approach to environmental management on multiple scales (local, regional, etc.). Through examples, the paper will demonstrate the effectiveness of ACAP in influencing some of the policies, programs and attitudes of various levels of government and industry in the region, as well as describe how the community-based model has been exported internationally. The paper will conclude with a discussion on a planned path forward for ACAP. 相似文献

The importance of the construction industry for the three elements of sustainable development, namely economic growth, social progress and effective protection of the environment, cannot be disregarded. This paper aims to evolve a conceptual framework for implementing sustainability principles and strategies to the construction industry from a life‐cycle perspective to contribute to sustainable development. The framework relies on three basic principles, which are resource management, life‐cycle design and design for human and environment. Following a literature review, each principle involving strategies and methods to be applied during the life cycle of construction projects is explained and a few case studies are presented for clarity on the methods. The framework, offering tools for stakeholders of the construction industry, also aims to help to develop the most appropriate assessment tool, which is based on the priorities of critical conditions. A key element in achieving sustainability's triple‐bottom‐line goals is a good public transport system. Many studies have shown the relationship between effective public transport services and sustainable development at the city level. The purpose of this study is to introduce and use a SERVQUAL framework to measure public transport services within a master‐planned community in Australia. The stakeholder survey findings suggest a wide gap between community expectations of public transport services and the actual service quality provided. This was consistent across all commuter groups. In particular, the findings have been useful in shedding broad light on the areas where improvements are needed most, i.e. responsiveness and reliability of services, to encourage greater use of public transport within the community level. Many companies have become aware of the importance of green creativity for sustainable development in the face of an increasingly critical global environmental situation. As employee's green creativity serves as an important foundation for corporate green creativity, we divide green creativity at the employee level into green incremental and radical creativity and construct a theoretical framework to assess the effects of corporate environmental ethics on these two types of green creativity. We distribute 195 valid leader–employee matching questionnaires to a variety of companies in China. We find that corporate environmental ethics has a positive effect on both incremental and radical green creativity. Furthermore, we discover that employee environmental commitment partially mediates the association between corporate environmental ethics and the two types of green creativity identified above. Sustainable human resources management (HRM) plays a moderating role between corporate environmental ethics and environmental commitment and moderates the indirect effects of corporate environmental ethics on the two types of green creativity through the promotion of environmental commitment. These findings suggest that companies should improve their corporate environmental ethics and sustainable HRM to encourage employees to enhance their own environmental commitment and, in turn, increase their green incremental and radical creativity levels. Our study has significant implications for enhancing business innovation and achieving sustainable development. Finally, we also address the theoretical and practical implications of our findings. 相似文献

Recent research has viewed desirable environmental performance as the proxy of corporate integrity culture. Based on the stakeholder theory, we extend this literature by examining whether the corporate integrity culture is associated with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance among China A-listed firms. We first build the integrity culture dictionary by the word embedding model. We also absorb the social influence into the integrity dictionary and identify corporate integrity culture through textual analysis. The results show that corporate integrity culture is positively associated with ESG performance. This research further discloses that this relationship is from both an indirect of integrity on green innovation and a direct effect of integrity in signaling internal stakeholders' behavioral integrity and verifying integrity culture to external stakeholders. Overall, the empirical evidence further enriches our understanding of the relationship between ESG performance and corporate integrity culture in China. 相似文献

Scientists in higher education institutions around the globe recognize the importance of engaging with public stakeholders to share their enthusiasm, explain their science, and encourage primary and secondary students to enter the sciences. However, without direct consideration of students’ and teachers’ perspectives and interests, scientists may design activities around their own goals, limiting the impact on school stakeholders (i.e., students, teachers, paraprofessional staff, students’ parents, and other caregivers). We drew from natural and social science research to describe how expanding the conception of place beyond the biophysical can help engage school stakeholders in meaningful ways. We describe the multidimensional PLACE framework that we developed to integrate perspectives, knowledge, and values of all stakeholders in engagement programming. The framework is organized around topics that stakeholders should discuss early on to ensure successful partnerships. We recommend that scientists identify and use pedagogy that is inclusive; language framed around dialogic communication methods; aims and motivations centered on engagement; cultural funds of knowledge of place (i.e., disciplinary, personal, or experiential knowledge); and evaluation of engagement based on meaningful metrics. Two case studies are presented to illustrate how the PLACE framework components, when addressed, can lead to robust, successful partnerships between scientists and schools. 相似文献

To mitigate environmental pollution from a rapidly expanding Thai food processing industry, different options and technologies can be identified. However, actually implementing these environmental improvements within small and medium‐sized agro‐food companies requires governing efforts of a variety of actors. This paper assesses feasible paths towards the ecological modernization of small and medium‐sized agro‐food processing industries in Thailand. A so‐called quartet‐network model is applied to analyze the greening potentials for small and medium‐sized enterprises in three agro‐food sectors in Northern Thailand: fruit and vegetable processing industries, meat processing companies and fruit wine enterprises. Conclusions are drawn on how actors in the networks around these companies could contribute towards a more sustainable development of these companies. Operational, financial and conceptual issues hinder protected area (PA) conservation goals, particularly in mega‐diverse countries where highly impoverished human communities live within their boundaries. We (a) highlight the relevance of community‐based biological monitoring for linking local communities with PAs to enhance their functionality, achieve conservation objectives and promote social development, (b) pinpoint key elements for establishing community‐based biological monitoring programs and (c) propose an inclusive model for PAs where the active participation of communities is essential. Through community‐based biological monitoring, PAs enhance the performance of species monitoring, surveillance, development and operation of management plans, local communities' engagement in conservation, and research activities. In turn, communities increase their knowledge on local natural resources, and acquire abilities needed to identify and quantify them, and ultimately lead to more informed decisions regarding their management and conservation. It is essential to consider PAs and local communities as a unit to achieve an integrated conservation approach. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment 相似文献

In recent decades, the concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and social media have gained immense importance among businesses and their stakeholders. These concepts have gained popularity and acceptance among both large and small businesses of most industries. However, the existing CSR literature showed that most studies concentrated on large businesses, leaving the domain of small businesses under-explored. The literature review revealed that only a few researchers had investigated the influence of social media on stakeholder engagement and the CSR of small businesses. This research aimed to explore the impacts of social media on the CSR of small businesses and used a concurrent mixed-method research design, employing survey questionnaires from 82 participants and semi-structured interviews with eight participants. The study conducted among the owners and managers of small businesses in a local government district in New Zealand discovered that many of them considered social media beneficial to engage with stakeholders and understand CSR trends. It also found that social media encouraged businesses to understand their vision, values and implement policies that are environmentally friendly and beneficial to the employees. 相似文献
