FORECASTING SNOW AND RAIN FOR THE NEW YORK CITY AREA USING THE METHOD OF ORDERED STATISTICS1

The occurrence of rain and snow for New York City is examined in relation to atmospheric parameters at three levels for four first order weather bureau stations. An objective forecasting guide is developed using order statistic properties. Incorporating surface and upper level data, the guide is a highly accurate forecast tool.
