Abstract: | A method for measuring the cell gas content in rigid foams has been developed. A unique foam extraction device and a thermal desorption system were developed to expedite gas extraction and analysis. CFC-11 found by this method was in excellent agreement with the calculated value in a commercially formulated foam (7.1 versus 7.8 percent). Average method precision (i.e., relative standard deviation) from processing nine foam samples (in duplicate) was 1.9 percent. The method has also been successfully applied to foams containing non-GFC blowing agents. |
