| Abstract: | Investigations have been carried out on the carotenoids in Verongia aerophoba (Schmidt) (Porifera: Spongiidae) from the Adriatic Sea. The presence of the carotenoids  -carotene,  -carotene, isozeaxanthin, lutein (ester and free), zeaxanthin, violaxanthin, neoxanthin, astaxanthin and astacene was determined by means of columnar and thin-layer chromatography. |
