Abstract:Determination of sediment oxygen demand (SOD) of Suzhou Creek showed that the SOD during summer was 6 times than that of winter in the lower reach below Beixinjing, whilst the highest reaching 7,500 mg/m2d at the reach of Wuning Road. The SOD of Suzhou Creek versus time revealed identical tendency: delaying for 3 - 4 days, rising up to a peak after 10 ~ 14 days and then declining, and maintaining at rather lower level after 20 - 30 days. COD content in the sediment of Suzhou Creek is basically equivalent to that in Huangpu River, and the SOD of Suzhou Creek is mainly caused by reducible inorganic substances.
