Abstract:Peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), a pollutant ubiquitous in outdoor air, is quantitatively retained on cartridges coated with triethanolamine (TEA) and is determined as nitrite by liquid chromatography with u.v. detection. PAN is therefore a severe interferent in the widely used method involving passive and active sampling on TEA-coated substrates to measure nitrogen dioxide in indoor and outdoor air.
