Vertical sodar measurements at different sites in summer

Abstract:Measurements of the turbulent structure of the planetary boundary layer have been made with the vertical sodar ECHO-1 at different locations in summer. The backscatter returns are discussed in relation to some relevant parameters of the boundary layer (mixing depth, inversion regime, stability, heat flux). For the measurements during the experiment KOPEX-86, when simultaneous observations were made by acoustic sounder and an instrumented tower, the sodar data were compared with direct measurements.
