Abstract:The atmospheric dust gathered in June, 2007 near the ground of Shijiazhuang City was assessed for the ecological hazard of heavy metals with the potential ecological hazard index suggested by Hakanson. The results showed that the range of heavy metal content was large, Zn, Cd, Cr, Ni, Cu, Pb were strong variation elements. The heavy metal elements accumulated to serious proportions. Among the heavy metal elements, Cd was at a strong potential ecological hazard level and Hg was at a very strong potential ecological hazard level, the others were all at mild potential ecological hazard level. Considering synthetically the potential ecological hazard of heavy metals, the percentages of slight, moderate, high and strong ecological hazard were respectively 2.0% , 15.1% , 30.6% , 52.3%. Therefore, the overall performance showed the strong potential ecological hazard, and heavy metal pollution in the atmospheric dust near the ground of Shijiazhuang City was serious.
