The cultivation of an appendicularian through numerous generations

Oikopleura dioica Fol has been cultivated continuously for 7 months, through 19 filial generations, in the laboratory. At 13°C, mean generation time was 9.5 days, at food concentrations close to natural phytoplankton concentrations in the North Sea. The reproductive performance did not deteriorate with increasing filial generations.
