Abstract:Experiments were carried out in a windtunnel to test the theoretical model for the dispersion of a stack plume heavier than air developed by Ooms et al. (1974, First Int. Symp. on Loss Prevention and Safety Promotion in the Process Industries, The Hague). Particular attention was paid to the initial conditions which have to be supplied in order to make model calculations possible. A good agreement between experimental results and model predictions was found for the plume path and the density distribution along the plume axis. The velocity distribution inside the plume was less well predicted.
