CHARACTERISTICS AND COUNTERMEASURES OF FLOOD DISASTERS IN CITIES ALONG THE RIVERS IN GUANGXI

This paper deals with the characteristics of flood disasters in cities alongthe rivers in Guangxi. The research shows that the intensity of rain storm is high,floods often occur on the sudden and resistibility to them is low. The causes of theseflood disasters are discussed. It is pointed out that the dominant measures for flood prevention and disaster reduction are to stress integration of engineering measures withnon-engineering ones, to establish a comprehensive flood prevention system for wholeriver reaches and to take different measures with special characteristics of every city.
