| Abstract: | Summary An animal of the collembolan Hypogastrura viatica isolated on a substrate previously contaminated by individuals of the same species behaves as if it were part of an aggregate. The basic activity decreases by an amount equal to the constant of aggregation. This decrease is due to the response to a stimulus caused by a substance that is discharged onto the substrate by aggregating organisms. This substance seems to be an aggregation pheromone. |
