Abstract: | A video imaging technique is described for the homogeneity assessment of wastes that have been treated by stabilisation/solidification (S/S). The method incorporates a fluorescent tracer into the S/S reagent. A test “waste” consisting of an artificial soil was stabilised/solidified with varying degrees of mixing using Portland cement as the S/S reagent. The tracer distribution was monitored with a video camera, and the cement distribution was determined by chemical analysis for calcium. Measurement of the homogeneity of the products by the video imaging technique gave results comparable to those obtained by the chemical analysis. The results warrant use of the video imaging technique in field applications since it is easier, cheaper and faster than traditional chemical methods. |
