| Abstract: | This thesis begins with the principle of sustainble development, introduces the evolvement process of the theory of optimum population, and reviews what have been achieved by scientific workers in this field. It also analyses the issues in the research of the optimum population and puts forward the view that the trend will shift from the theory of optimum population to that of sustainable development in the future. |
