Formation of benzoic acid from biphenyl in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Abstract:Gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric analyses show that benzoic acid is formed during growth of Saccharomyces cerevisiae in the presence of biphenyl. No hydroxylated biphenyls are detectable whether the yeast cells do or do not contain cytochrome P-450.
