The distribution of primary production relative to a cyclonic gyre in Baie des Chaleurs

Primary production within the Baie des Chaleurs, Canada, is dominated by a cyclonic gyre system. The pattern of production fits the theoretical expectation of increased productivity associated with colder, nutrient-rich water being brought closer to the surface within the gyre. Upper reaches of the bay, west of the gyre, follow a normal esturine form of circulation with lower rates of production.
