| Abstract: | The resent paper dea1s with mineral composition of main types in relation tosoil fertility in middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.The ratio ofquartz to feldspar of yellow cinnamon soil developed from Xiashu loess tends toincrease from west to east and north to south.x-ray diffraction patterns demonstrated that hydrous mica is the predominant clay mineral,accompanied by somesmectite,2:1 and l :l irregular interstratified minerals,kaolinite,and smallamount of chrolite and vermiculite. Clay mineral composition of red soils underdifferent biogeographical conditions presents striking differences. |
