Abstract:Substituted phenols were tested, by kinetic measurements, as inhibitors of the phenol degradation by an activated sludge. Inhibiting actions were expressed as pI50. Results of these measurements (with nitrophenols and chloronitrophenols) and of previous measurements (with chlorophenols) on the same sludge were correlated with structural properties (logP, ∑σ) of the inhibitors. The QSARs referring to the present activated sludge are compared with previous correlations of data obtained with a different sludge.
