Abstract:A new investigation method, temporal spatial plots method, developed by the authors was used in Yele Nature Reserve to study habitat selection of musk deer in 1995. Vanderploeg and Scavia selectivity index was used to assess the musk deer's selection for different habitat parameters. The result showed that the musk deer's habitat was the places near the bamboo forest on southeast facing slopes with bamboo density from 0 to 15 culsm/m2, forest canopy of 0.50~0.75, and altitude of 3 400~3 550 m. Musk deer shows no obvious selection for slope grade above 10, but it does not like the slope grade under 10. Because of human activities, the suitable places for musk deer's existence and reproduction are reducing in Yele Nature Reserve. Fig 1, Tab 1, Ref 8
