| Abstract: | The present paper shows how our knowledge concerning the appendicularians from the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf has evolved. The different historical steps and their relative importance are discussed, and the contributions, either direct or indirect, of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE) are emphasized. |
