Paleoclimatic and Paleoenvironmental Changes in Late Stage of Late Pleistocene Inferred from Lacustrine Sediment in Subei Basin

Abstract:Based on multi-proxy analysis of grain size, geochemical elements ratios, mass susceptibility and 14C dating, the paleoclimatic and paleoenvironmentic changes in late stage of late Pleistocene is reconstructed by ZF profile of lacustrine sediment in Subei Basin. The results indicate that the paleoclimatic evolution of Subei Basin can be divided into two major stages, the first stage is from 39.6 to 30.3 cal ka BP, in which the climate is relative warm-humid and exist a cold-dry fluctuation, the second stage is from 30.3 to 18.6 cal ka BP, in which the climate is cold-dry and relative stable. The temporal changes of grain size, geochemical elements ratios, mass susceptibility of ZF profile are consistent with the curve of stalagmites of Hulu/Sanbao Cave and ice cores oxygen isotope curve of Greenland. The millennium-scale climatic events of ZF profile are corresponding to Heinrich events H3, H2 that with dry and cold climate. The results revealed that the climate of late stage of late Pleistocene in Subei Basin has great correlation with the global climate changes and is obviously affected by the East Asian summer monsoon system driven by solar radiation.
