Abstract:Polypropylene(PP),as one of the three general plastics,is widely used in many fields,for example,automobiles,electronic and electric industry,housing,building,and so on.It is known that PP is very combustible,and the flame retardation of PP is needed in many applications.Intumescent flame retardants(IFR) are widely used in the field of fire proof coatings,plastics,rubbers,etc.They are usually composed of three components: an acid source(or carbonisation catalyst),a char forming agent and a blowing agent.Unfortunately,the most IFR systems have some problems such as moisture sensitivity and poor compatibility with polymer matrix.In this work,preparation and characterization of microencapsulated IFR(MCIFR) with amino resins are reported.The flame retardant properties and water resistance of IFR and MCIFR in PP are evaluated,and their results are compared.
