The enzyme assisted extraction conditions of polysaccharide from Cordyceps militaris mycelia were firstly investigated by kinetics analysis and the optimal operating was found to be: extraction temperature 40 °C; solid-solvent ratio 1:20; extraction pH 4.0; cellulase concentration 2.0%. The polysaccharide extraction yield was 5.99% under these optimized conditions. Furthermore, a fundamental investigation of the biosorption of Pb2+ from aqueous solution by the C. militaris polysaccharide was performed under batch conditions. The suitable pH (5.0), polysaccharide concentration (0.20 g L?1), initial Pb2+ concentration (300 mg L?1) and contact time (40 min) were outlined to enhance Pb2+ biosorption from aqueous medium. The Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo first order kinetic model fitted well to the data of Pb2+ biosorption, suggesting the biosorption of Pb2+ onto C. militaris polysaccharide was monolayer biosorption and physical adsorption might be the rate-limiting step that controlled the adsorption process. FTIR analysis showed that the main functional groups of C. militaris polysaccharide involved in adsorption process were carbonyl, carboxyl, and hydroxyl groups.  相似文献

A respirometric system was used to analyze the biodegradation of high molecular weight (120,000 to 200,000 g mol–1) polylactic acid (PLA) plastic films in soil under laboratory conditions. The respirometric system consisted of air-conditioning pretraps, a soil reactor, and a carbon dioxide (CO2) posttrap. A 200-g homogeneous soil mixture of all-purpose potting soil : manure soil : sand [1 : 1 : 1 (w/w)] and 1.5 g of PLA plastic films in 1 × 1-cm2 squares was added to each bottle. The respirometers were placed in a 28, 40, or 55°C water bath for 182 days. Treatments (three replicates) included native corn starch (positive control), polyethylene (Glad Cling Wrap; negative control), and three PLA films: Ca-I (Cargill Dow Polymers LLC, monolayer), GII (Cargill Dow Polymers LLC, Generation II), and Ch-I (Chronopol; monolayer). The degree of polymer mineralization was indicated by the cumulative CO2 liberated from each respirometer. The initial average mineralization rate and total percentage mineralized of the PLA plastic films at 28, 40, and 55°C was 24.3, 41.5, and 76.9 mg/day with a 27, 45, and 70% carbon loss, respectively. No decrease in soil pH was observed after 182 days of mineralization. Hence, increase in soil temperature drastically enhanced the biodegradation of PLA plastic films in soil under laboratory conditions (P < 0.0001).  相似文献

The potential for biosorption of Hg(II) ions from aqueous solutions using water hyacinth was studied. The effect of the retention period (0, 1, 3, 7, and 15 days), pH (3, 5, 7, and 9), initial concentration of Hg(II) ions (5, 10, and 15 mg/L), and organic loading rate (25, 50, and 75 percent) on biosorption were investigated. The physicochemical parameters were also analyzed at various concentrations of Hg(II) ions before and after treatment. The maximum biosorption rate was obtained at 15 days with the initial concentration of 10 mg/L at a pH of 7 and organic loading rate of 50 percent. The maximum biosorption capacity of both water hyacinth roots and shoots were 5.5 mg/L and 3.8 mg/L, respectively. The Hg(II) biosorption data were analyzed using the first‐ and second‐order kinetic models. Pseudo second‐order kinetics was considered the most appropriate model for predicting the biosorption capacity of both water hyacinth roots and shoots, and the modeled results were compared to the experimental results. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms were used to evaluate the experimental data, and their constants were derived. Biosorption equilibrium data were best described by the Langmuir isotherm model followed by the Freundlich model. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the hexavalent chromium (CrVI) biosorption capacities of several agricultural wastes from aqueous solutions. Samples were tested unaltered and after hydrochloric acid (HCl) treatment. Additional parameters tested include sample dose, contact time, particle size, mixing temperature, and the concentrations and pH of the CrVI solutions. Desorption studies were performed to determine if the removed CrVI could be recovered. In addition, tests were conducted to determine if the agricultural waste samples (AWS) could be reused for additional CrVI biosorption cycles. The results of this study demonstrate a wide range of CrVI biosorption proficiencies ranging from 13 to 98 percent removal. The parameters that resulted in higher CrVI removal include HCl treatment, higher sample dose, lower CrVI solution concentration, and lower mixing temperature. Desorption results showed an 8 to 25 percent CrVI recovery rate. Reused AWS were effective at removing CrVI during subsequent trials. Therefore, all AWS can be reused for additional CrVI biosorption cycles. Hence, these could reduce hazardous waste disposal inefficiencies and costs by avoiding disposing of spent AWS following each CrVI biosorption cycle.  相似文献

This paper was focused on the biosorption of phosphate ions from aqueous solution onto the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) modified multi-component biosorbent composed of pine, oak, hornbeam and fir sawdust biomasses. A series of batch tests were conducted and the effects of solution pH, ion concentration, quantity of biosorbent and contact time on the bioremoval of phosphate ions were investigated. The biosorption data of kinetic and equilibrium were modeled using various mathematical equations. The phosphate removal increased with increased ion concentration and decreased with increased pH and biosorbent quantity values. The equilibrium state was reached within 120 min of exposure time. The process kinetics was best described by Elovich model while the isotherm data of biosorption best obeyed Freundlich equation. The obtained results revealed that the use of CTAB modified mix sawdust biosorbent presented interesting options for bioremediation of contaminated environments and waste recycling (as nutrient fertilizer and compost material).  相似文献

Three high molecular weight (120,000 to 200,000 g mol–1) polylactic acid (PLA) plastic films from Chronopol (Ch-I) and Cargill Dow Polymers (GII and Ca-I) were analyzed for their degradation under various temperature and relative humidity (RH) conditions. Two sets of plastic films, each containing 11 samples, were randomly hung in a temperature/humidity-controlled chamber by means of plastic-coated paper clips. The tested conditions were 28, 40, and 55°C at 50 and 100% RH, respectively, and 55°C at 10% RH. The three tested PLA films started to lose their tensile properties when their weight-average molecular weight (M w) was in the range of 50,000 to 75,000 g mol–1. The average degradation rate of Ch-I, GII, and Ca-I was 28,931, 27,361, and 63,025 M w/week, respectively. Hence, GII had a faster degradation rate than Ch-I and Ca-I under all tested conditions. The degradation rate of PLA plastics was enhanced by the increase in temperature and relative humidity. This trend was observed in all three PLA plastics (Ca-I, GII, and Ch-I). Of the three tested films, Ch-I was the first to lose its mechanical properties, whereas Ca-I demonstrated the slowest loss, with mechanical properties under all tested conditions.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to analyse the environmental impacts (EIs) of the process of preparation of new biocomposite materials obtained from polylactide (PLA) and chicken feathers (CFs). Two CFs stabilization methods and different percentages of CFs have been studied. The EIs of these new composites were compared to the impact of virgin PLA. Cradle-to-gate life cycle inventories were assessed for 0–35% v/v of CFs in a CFs/PLA biocomposite. Two CFs stabilization processes, autoclave and surfactant, were tested and compared with the aim to prioritize one of them from the environmental point of view. A composite plate of 184?×?184?×?2.2 mm3 was defined as the functional unit. Autoclave stabilization process exhibited lower environmental impact compared with surfactant stabilization process mainly due to both the lower requirements of electricity and water and the reduced pollution loads of the generated wastewater. Thus, the autoclave process was selected as the standard method when comparing the EIs of the proposed CFs/PLA biocomposites. In this sense, the addition of CFs to PLA matrix proportionally reduces all the EIs compared to pure PLA due to the replacement of PLA with CFs. This behaviour can be explained because the PLA production accounts for the 99% of the impact of the biocomposite. Consequently, CFs conveniently stabilized might be an alternative raw material to prepare CFs/PLA biocomposites with less environmental impact compared to pure PLA.  相似文献

This study produced poly (lactic acid) sheets using a biaxial stretching process, to investigate the effects of biaxial stretching on thermal properties, crystallinity, shrinkage and mechanical properties of PLA films. The results of differential scanning calorimetry show that the glass temperature peak of PLA films, which weakened after stretching. The cold crystallization peak of PLA films nearly disappeared at stretch ratios of 4 × 4 with a stretching rate above 50 %/s. The orientation and strain crystallization of PLA films were suppressed at stretching temperatures of approximately 100–110 °C. The shrinkage of PLA decreased proportionally to the stretch rate and inversely proportional to the stretching temperature, suggesting that the internal stresses frozen in the amorphous phase were an indication of a decrease in the crystallinity of the films, implying that PLA films would be best suited to low-shrinkage applications. The stress–strain of the PLA films increased considerably following the biaxial stretching process. In addition, PLA films exposed to hot water treatment show a slight decrease in stress values, probably attributable to a relaxation of the molecules, which have undergone orientation but failed to crystallize.  相似文献

The anaerobic biodegradation rates of four different sizes of poly (lactic acid) (PLA) films (thickness 25???m) in anaerobic sludge at 55?°C were examined. The anaerobic biodegradation rates of small pieces of PLA film were slower than for large pieces of PLA film. We also examined whether PLA film could also be used as a reference material in the anaerobic biodegradation test in addition to PLA powder. The anaerobic biodegradation rate of PLA film became slower with lower activity sludge, but the rate of decrease was gradual, and the anaerobic biodegradation rate of PLA film was faster than the PLA powder (125?C250???m). The anaerobic biodegradation rate of the PLA powder (125?C250???m) reflected the plastic anaerobic biodegradation activity of the sludge more accurately than the thin PLA film (thickness 25???m). Consequently, PLA powder (125?C250???m) is more suitable than thin PLA film (thickness?<?25???m) for use as a reference material to assess the plastic anaerobic biodegradation activity of the sludge in an anaerobic biodegradation test at 55?°C.  相似文献

A hydrophilic copolymer, ethylene–vinyl alcohol (EVOH), was incorporated into the poly(lactic acid) (PLA) matrix to improve the barrier property of PLA through twin-screw extrusion rather than the typical coextrusion process. A chain extender, poly[(ethylene)-co-(methyl acrylate)-co-(glycidyl methacrylate)] (PEMG), was used to reduce the probability of the thermal degradation of PLA during melt compounding. Biaxial stretching was used to enhance the microstructure and barrier property of PLA-PEMG/EVOH films. Experimentally, PEMG considerably reduced the probability of the thermal degradation of the PLA-PEMG sample. Biaxial stretching increased the tensile strength and decreased the value of elongation at break of the PLA-PEMG/EVOH80 (PLA/EVOH 100/80) film. Because of the efficient blending of PLA/EVOH in the twin-screw extruder, the dispersion of EVOH in the PLA matrix revealed homogeneous dispersion with a domain size of 1–5 μm. EVOH effectively improved the water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) of PLA through melt blending. Blending PLA-PEMG with EVOH substantially decreased the WVTR from 250 cc—20 μm/m2-day-atm for neat PLA to approximately 65 cc—20 μm/m2-day-atm for the PLA-PEMG/EVOH80 film, a decrease of approximately 74 % compared with neat PLA. Moreover, the WVTR decreased further from 65 cc—20 μm/m2-day-atm for the unstretched PLA-PEMG/EVOH80 film to 6.3 cc—20 μm/m2-day-atm for the film stretched at a stretch ratio of 3.5 × 3.5 and at 100 %/s, a decrease of approximately 90 % compared with neat PLA.  相似文献

Chitosan was dissolved in 2?% aqueous acetic acid solution and the films were prepared by solution casting. Values of tensile strength (TS), tensile modulus (TM), elongation at break (Eb?%) and water vapor permeability (WVP) of the chitosan films were found to be 30?MPa, 450?MPa, 8?% and 4.7?g?mm/m2?day?kPa, respectively. Poly(caprolactone) (PCL) films were prepared from its granules by compression molding and the values of TS, TM, Eb and WVP were 14?MPa, 220?MPa, 70?% and 1.54?g?mm/m2?day?kPa, respectively. PCL was reinforced with chitosan films, and composite films were prepared by compression molding. Amount of chitosan in the composite films varied from 10 to 50?% (w/w). It was found that with the incorporation of chitosan films in PCL, both the values of TS and TM of composite films increased significantly. The highest mechanical properties were found at 50?% (w/w) of chitosan content. The Oxygen transmission rate (OTR) of composite film was found to decrease significantly than PCL films. Thermal properties of the composite were also improved as compared to PCL. The water uptake test of the composite also showed promising results with a good stability of composite films. The interface of the composite was investigated by scanning electron microscopy and showed good interfacial adhesion between PCL and chitosan films.  相似文献

In this study, poly(l-lactide) (PLA) films were fabricated by melt processing and the plasticizing effect of hexadecyl lactate (HL) (0, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 wt% on PLA were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, tensile, transparency, and water vapor permeability tests. The SEM analysis revealed that PLA with 10 wt% HL appeared uniform with extra small bumps, confirmed the interaction between PLA and HL. The thermal analysis revealed a glass transition temperature of 57.4 °C for neat PLA film, but the addition of HL elicited a decrease in the temperature of the peak (43.8 °C). The incorporation of plasticizer into PLA resulted in the increase of elongation at break, as well as the decrease of tensile strength and tensile modulus. Even though a decrease in transparency was recorded, the PLA/HL blend films appeared transparent by visually observation. The water vapor permeability of PLA/HL blend films increased with the increase of HL. The PLA/HL blend films could effectively extend the shelf-life of fresh-cut pears as the commercial low density polyethylene films. The results indicated that the properties of PLA films can be modified with the addition of HL and PLA/HL blend films could serve as an alternative as food packaging materials to reduce environmental problems associated with synthetic packaging films.  相似文献

Naturally-based poly(acrylic acid) grafted sodium alginate di-block hydrogels were investigated as high efficiency biosorbents for copper(II) ion. The grafted di-block hydrogel was characterized using FTIR, TGA and SEM techniques. Blank and immobilized algal biosorbent beads formed via 2.0% (w/w) calcium ions were also investigated. Batch adsorption experiments revealed optimal pH dependence of copper(II) ion biosorption at pH 5.5 with high efficient copper(II) ion uptake of 98.5 mg/g. The dynamics studies showed that the high efficiency copper(II) ion biosorption followed pseudo-second order kinetics with significant contribution of intraparticle diffusion mechanism. The equilibrium data fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D–R) adsorption isotherm models. Thermodynamics parameters for copper(II) biosorption on blank and immobilized algal beads depicted the spontaneous nature of the biosorption process. Such high efficiency, feasibility, simplicity, and low cost properties adapt the di-block biosorbent to be the next generation promising biosorbents for water decontamination and to help in the recovery of the missing ecologic harmony.  相似文献

In this study the degradation of polylactic acid (PLA) plastic films in Costa Rican soil and in a leaf composting environment was investigated. Three types of PLA films were used: Ch-I, (PLA monolayer plastic films from Chronopol, Golden, CO), GII (PLA trilayer plastic films from Cargill Dow Polymers LLC, Minnetonka, MN), and Ca-I (PLA monolayer plastic films from Cargill Dow Polymers LLC). The average soil temperature and moisture content in Costa Rica were 27°C and 80%, respectively. The average degradation rate of PLA plastic films in the soil of the banana field was 7675 M w/week. Two compost rows were set up at the Iowa State University (ISU) (Ames) compost site. Temperature and relative humidity of the compost rows were kept at 55 ± 5°C and 50 ± 10% RH, respectively. The degradation rates of GII and Ca-I in the compost rows were 113,290 and 71,283 M w/week, respectively. Therefore, it was estimated that in Costa Rican soil and in compost rows, PLA would be visibly degraded in 6 months and in 3 weeks, respectively.  相似文献

The biodegradability of polylactide (PLA) and gelatinized starches (GS) blend films in the presence of compatibilizer was investigated under controlled soil burial conditions. Various contents (0–40 wt%) of corn and tapioca starches were added as fillers; whereas, different amounts of methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) (0–2.5 wt%) and 10 wt% based on PLA content of polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) were used as a compatibilizer and a plasticizer, respectively. The biodegradation process was followed by measuring changes in the physical appearance, weight loss, morphological studies, and tensile properties of the blend films. The results showed that the presence of small amount of MDI significantly increased the tensile properties of the blends compared with the uncompatibilized blends. This is attributed to an improvement of the interfacial interaction between PLA and GS phases, as evidenced by the morphological results. For soil burial testing, PLA/GS films with lower levels (1.25 wt%) of MDI had less degradation; in contrast, at high level of MDI, their changes of physical appearance and weight loss tended to increase. These effects are in agreement with their water absorption results. Furthermore, biodegradation rates of the films were enhanced with increasing starch contents, while mechanical performances were decreased.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable polymer that exhibits high elastic modulus, high mechanical strength, and feasible processability. However, high cost and fragility hinder the application of PLA in food packaging. Therefore, this study aimed to develop flexible PLA/acetate and PLA/chitosan films with improved thermal and mechanical properties without the addition of a plasticizer and additive to yield extruder compositions with melt temperatures above those of acetate and chitosan. PLA blends with 10, 20, and 30 wt% of chitosan or cellulose acetate were processed in a twin-screw extruder, and grain pellets were then pressed to form films. PLA/acetate films showed an increase of 30 °C in initial degradation temperature and an increase of 3.9 % in elongation at break. On the other hand, PLA/chitosan films showed improvements in mechanical properties as an increase of 4.7 % in elongation at break. PLA/chitosan film which presented the greatest increase in elongation at break proved to be the best candidate for application in packaging.  相似文献

In this research work, a novel gum acacia capped polyaniline-based nanocomposite hydrogel (GPA NCHs) was developed and evaluated for the adsorptive removal of cationic methylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solutions. Firstly, Gum acacia (GA) capped Polyaniline (PANI) dispersion was synthesized by using dispersion polymerization. Then, a water-swellable hydrogel network consisting of GA-PANI and acrylamide (AM) was obtained by using N,N′ -methylene-bisacrylamide (MBA) as a cross-linker, and ammonium persulphate/N,N,N,N′-tetramethylethylenediamine (APS/TMEDA) as an initiating system. The developed materials were characterized by UV–visible, FTIR, XRD, SEM–EDX and TEM techniques. The microscopy studies revealed that GA-PANI nanoparticles have a granular morphological surface with an average size of?~?40–100 nm. Removal of MB dye from aqueous system was performed by adsorption studies in batch equilibrium mode with different dosage of GA-PANI, MB concentration, pH and temperatures. The adsorption data revealed that the absorption capacity of GPA NCHs highly depends on the dosage of GA-PANI, pH and concentration of the MB dye. The maximum percentage of MB removal onto GPA 1.0 NCHs was found to be 89% at pH 10 with a dye concentration of 10 mg L?1. The equilibrium adsorption data were also analyzed by different models to understand the adsorption process. The results revealed that the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics and it fit well in Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms with a maximum adsorption capacity of 35.41 mg g?1. These studies demonstrate that the GPA NCHs could be a promising adsorbent material for the removal of MB dye from contaminated aqueous systems.

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) blends with different levels of chain extender were prepared and cast into films. The effect of chain extender on the mechanical, thermal and barrier properties of the films were investigated. With the inclusion of the chain extender, the compatibility and interfacial adhesion between the two polymer phases were significantly improved by a mean of forming a PLA–chain extender–PPC copolymer. Reactions between the chain extender, PLA and PPC were observed through FTIR study. SEM study also confirmed the improved compatibility and interfacial adhesion. The elongation at break of the compatibilized film with optimal amount of chain extender showed dramatic increase by up to 1940 %. DSC studies revealed that chain extender hindered the crystallization of the film which explained the decrease in both water and oxygen barrier when adding chain extender. PLA was found to be able to enhance both oxygen and water barrier of the blend as compared to neat PPC, while in the case of the blend with chain extender, oxygen and water barrier properties exhibited reduction at the beginning. However, when increasing chain extender concentration, these two barrier performance exhibited an upward trend. It was found that PLA/PPC blend showed much better oxygen barrier property than both parent polymers, which can be ascribed to the acceleration effect of PPC on the crystallization of PLA.  相似文献

In this study, the biodegradation of PLA films using microorganisms from Lake Bogoria (Kenya) were investigated. The biodegradation tests done using certain strains of thermophilic bacteria showed faster biodegradation rates and demonstrated temperature dependency. The biodegradation of the PLA films was studied using Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and light microscopy. The biodegradation of PLA was demonstrated by decrease in molecular weight. The preparation and characterization of PLA/Gum Arabic blends were also investigated using DSC, TGA, TMA and NMR. In summary, the results obtained in this research show that PLA films undergo fast biodegradation using thermophiles isolated from Lake Bogoria. The PLA/GA blends studies show it is possible to prepare films of varying hydrophobic–hydrophilic properties for various applications.  相似文献

In this study, the hydrolytic degradation of Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and acetylated PLA (PLA-Ac)–clay nanocomposites were investigated. The organo clay was obtained by ion exchange reaction using cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Nanocomposites containing 2, 5 and 8% mass ratio of organo clay (CTAB-O) were prepared. PLA and its organo clay nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine the morphology before and after hydrolytic degradation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses of PLA and PLA-Ac were also obtained. The hydrolytic degradation of polymers and their composites were investigated in the phosphate buffered saline solution (PBS). The results showed that controlled hydrolytic degradation was observed in the samples with end group modification of PLA. While weight loss of PLA films was 28%, that of PLA-Ac films was 18% after 60 days degradation time. The weight loss was obtained as 29.5 and 25.5% for PLA-5 wt% organo clay (PLA/5CTAB-O) and PLA-Ac-5 wt% organo clay (PLA-Ac/5CTAB-O) nanocomposites films, respectively. It was also observed that thermal degradation of PLA-Ac was much more than that of PLA. Hydrolytic degradation increased depending on organo clay content. The end group modificated PLA results in controlled hydrolytic degradation. While hydrolytic degradation in polymer films occurred as surface erosion, bulk erosion was observed in composite films.  相似文献
