The Canadian Acid Aerosol Measurement Program (CAAMP) was established in 1992 to gain a better understanding of the atmospheric behaviour of fine particle strong acidity (“acid aerosols”) and to facilitate an assessment of the potential health risks associated with acid aerosols and particles in general. During 1992. 1993 and 1994, annular denuder and filter measurements were taken at four sites in Ontario, two in Quebec, three in the Atlantic Provinces and one in the greater Vancouver area. Mean fine particle sulphate concentrations (SO42−) were highest in southern Ontario (annual average ranged from 40–70 nmol m−3), lowest at a site in the Vancouver area (average = 16 nmol m−3) and second lowest in rural Nova Scotia. However, mean fine particle strong acid concentrations (H+) were geographically different. The highest mean concentrations were at the east coast sites (annual average of up to 30 nmol m−3). Acidities were lower in areas where the fine particle acidity experienced greater neutralization from reaction with ammonia. This included the major urban centres (i.e. Toronto and Montréal) and areas with greater amounts of agricultural activity, as in rural southern Ontario. On average, ambient concentrations of fine and coarse particle mass were larger in the urban areas and also in areas where SO42− levels were higher. All the particle components were episodic. However, compared to SO42− and fine particles (PM2.5 or PM2.1, depending upon inlet design), episodes of H+ tended to be less frequent and of shorter duration, particularly in Ontario. Saint John, New Brunswick, had the highest mean annual H+ concentration, which was 30 nmol m−3. H+ episodes (24 h concentration > 100 nmol m−3) were also the most frequent at this location. The high levels in Saint John were partially due to local sulphur dioxide sources and heterogeneous chemistry occurring in fog, which, on average, led to a 50% enhancement in sulphate, relative to upwind conditions. There was a substantial amount of intersite correlation in the day to day variations in H+, SO42− , PM2.5 and PM10 (fine + coarse particles) concentrations, which is due to the influence of synoptic-scale meteorology and the relatively long atmospheric lifetime of fine particles. Sulphate was the most regionally homogenous species. Pearson correlation coefficients comparing SO42− between sites ranged from 0.6 to 0.9, depending on site separation and lag time. In many cases, particle episodes were observed to move across the entire eastern portion of Canada with about a two-day lag between the SO42− levels in southern Ontario and in southern Nova Scotia.  相似文献

Chemical composition of rainwater was studied in the northeastern Romania, Iasi region, and the concentrations of major inorganic and organic ions were measured in samples collected between April 2003 and December 2006. The pH of the rainwater is 5.92 (volume weighted mean average, VWM) suggesting a sufficient load of alkaline components neutralizing its acidity. On average, 97% of the acidity in the collected samples is neutralized by CaCO3 and NH3. Clear seasonal variations were observed for some of the identified ions (e.g., SO42−, NO3, Ca2+, NH4+). The data obtained during this work revealed that both concentrations and fluxes of anthropogenic source-related ions (e.g., SO42−, NO3 and NH4+) are among the highest reported for European sites. It is shown that meteorology and long-range transport processes may concur to their high levels.  相似文献

Size-classified ice crystal samples were collected during the Spring of 1998, at the Jungfraujoch High-Alpine Research Station (3454 m), located in Switzerland. A procedure modified from the Guttalgor method, originally developed for size-selective sampling of raindrops by Bächmann et al. (Atmos. Environ. 26A (1992) 1795) was used to sample ice crystals during precipitation events. The size-classified ice crystal samples were analyzed using ion chromatography to determine the concentrations of Na+, NH4+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl, NO3, and SO42− in each size class. For ions associated with coarse mode aerosol, Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, and Cl, concentration increased with decreasing ice crystal size, suggesting scavenging by nucleation. For the remaining ions, mixed behavior was observed suggesting a combination of gas phase scavenging and scavenging via riming.  相似文献

Two-stage aerosol samples (PM10–2.5 and PM2.5) were collected at a coastal rural site located in the northeastern Mediterranean, between April 2001 and 2002. A total of 562 aerosol samples were analyzed for trace elements (Fe, Ti, Mn, Ca, V, Ni, Zn, Cr) and water-soluble ions (Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl, Br, NO3, SO42−, C2O42− and MS:methane sulfonate). PM10, crustal elements, sea salt aerosols and NO3 were mainly associated with the coarse mode whereas non-sea salt (nss)SO42−, C2O42−; MS, NH4+, Cr and Ni were found predominantly in the fine fraction. Concentrations of aerosol species exhibited orders of magnitude change from day to day and the aerosol chemical composition is heavily affected by dust events under the influence of airflow from North Africa. During the sampling period, 11 specific mineral dust events of duration varying from 1 day to a week have been identified and their influence on the chemical composition of aerosols has been studied in detail. Ionic balance analysis performed in the coarse and fine aerosol fractions indicated anion and cation deficiency due to CO32− and H+, respectively. A relationship between nssSO42− and NH4+ denoted that sulfate particles were partially neutralized (70%) by ammonium. Excess-K/BC presented two distinct ratios for winter and summer, indicating two different sources: fossil fuel burning in winter and biomass burning in summer.  相似文献

Besides well-known episodic Kosa during spring, high concentrations of Ca2+ in aerosols were observed early in summer as well as in the semi-continuous data of the aerosols at the summit of Mt. Fuji. We further analysed the data to study the chemical characteristics of the high calcium event during early summer. The back trajectory analyses of the event indicated that Ca was transported from arid and semi-arid regions (e.g. the Taklamakan desert) through the westerly-dominated troposphere higher than the height of the summit of Fuji. The amount of SO42? was always equivalent to that of NH4+ unlike the case of the normal Kosa period where SO42? is in excess with respect to NH4+. This shows the ‘after’ mixing of unreacted CaCO3 of Kosa origin with (NH4)2SO4, which was only realized by the downward injection of Kosa particles from higher altitudes to the air masses of different origin. In the case of normal Kosa, the air bearing Kosa particles passed through the polluted area to absorb unneutralized acids (‘on-the-way’ mixing), whereas in the case of the Kosa-like phenomena in summer, the acids from the polluted area have been neutralized by NH4+ and become inactive before mixing with CaCO3 (“after” mixing). We have simplified the chemistry of aerosols using their three major components, Ca2+, SO42? and NH4+, and introduced a new triangle diagram with the three assumed end-members of CaCO3, CaSO4 and (NH4)2SO4 to quantify the contribution of the ‘after’ mixing to the aerosols (AMI; ‘after’ mixing index). Based on the back trajectories of some high AMI cases, CaCO3 in Kosa particles was transported through the middle troposphere (5000–7000 m) and descended to meet another air mass where SO42? had been already neutralized by NH3.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of testing of roof runoff waters from buildings in the city of Gda sk (Poland), carried out as a part of a broader research project aimed at the determination of pollutant levels in precipitation. The analytes determined included volatile organohalogen compounds, petroleum hydrocarbons, Na+, K+, NH4+, Mg2+, Ca2+, F, Cl, NO2, NO3, PO43−, SO42− ions, as well as organonitrogen, organophosphorus and organochlorine pesticides. In addition, the toxicity and pH of the samples were examined. The samples were collected over a period of six months, during or immediately following precipitation events. More than half of the samples (25) were found to be toxic, with inhibition exceeding 20%. The toxicity was weakly correlated to the levels of organonitrogen and organophosphorus pesticides in runoff waters. It was established that at least in some cases the roofing material affected the levels of the pollutants found in the samples.  相似文献

The characteristics of ambient aerosols, affected by solar radiation, relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and gas–aerosol interaction, changed rapidly at different spatial and temporal scales. In Taipei Basin, dense traffic emissions and sufficient solar radiation for typical summer days favored the formation of secondary aerosols. In winter, the air quality in Taipei Basin was usually affected by the Asian continental outflows due to the long-range transport of pollutants carried by the winter monsoon. The conventional filter-based method needs a long time for collecting aerosols and analyzing compositions, which cannot provide high time-resolution data to investigate aerosol sources, atmospheric transformation processes, and health effects. In this work, the in situ ion chromatograph (IC) system was developed to provide 15-min time-resolution data of nine soluble inorganic species (Cl, NO2, NO3, SO42−, Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+ and Ca2+). Over 89% of all particles larger than approximately 0.056 μm were collected by the in situ IC system. The in situ IC system is estimated to have a limit of detection lower than 0.3 μg m−3 for the various ambient ionic components. Depending on the hourly measurements, the pollutant events with high aerosol concentrations in Taipei Basin were associated with the local traffic emission in rush hour, the accumulation of pollutants in the stagnant atmosphere, the emission of industrial pollutants from the nearby factories, the photochemical secondary aerosol formation, and the long-range transport of pollutants from Asian outflows.  相似文献

TSP and PM2.5 samples were collected at Xi'an, China during dust storms (DSs) and several types of pollution events, including haze, biomass burning, and firework displays. Aerosol mass concentrations were up to 2 times higher during the particulate matter (PM) events than on normal days (NDs), and all types of PM led to decreased visibility. Water-soluble ions (Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, F?, Cl?, NO3?, and SO42?). were major aerosol components during the pollution episodes, but their concentrations were lower during DSs. NH4+, K+, F?, Cl?, NO3?, and SO42? were more abundant in PM2.5 than TSP but the opposite was true for Mg2+ and Ca2+. PM collected on hazy days was enriched with secondary species (NH4+, NO3?, and SO42) while PM from straw combustion showed high K+ and Cl?. Firework displays caused increases in K+ and also enrichments of NO3? relative to SO42?. During DSs, the concentrations of secondary aerosol components were low, but Ca2+ was abundant. Ion balance calculations indicate that PM from haze and straw combustion was acidic while the DSs samples were alkaline and the fireworks' PM was close to neutral. Ion ratios (SO42?/K+, NO3?/SO42?, and Cl?/K+) proved effective as indicators for different pollution episodes.  相似文献

To better understand the origins of aerosol nitrogen, we measured concentrations of total nitrogen (TN) and its isotope ratios (δ15N) in tropical Indian aerosols (PM10) collected from Chennai (13.04°N; 80.17°E) on day- and night-time basis in winter and summer 2007. We found high δ15N values (+15.7 to +31.2‰) of aerosol N (0.3–3.8 μg m?3), in which NH4+ is the major species (78%) with lesser contribution from NO3? (6%). Based on the comparison of δ15N in Chennai aerosols with those reported for atmospheric aerosols from mid-latitudes and for the particles emitted from point sources (including a laboratory study), as well as the δ15N ratios of cow-dung samples (this study), we found that the atmospheric aerosol N in Chennai has two major sources; animal excreta and bio-fuel/biomass burning from South and Southeast Asia. We demonstrate that a gas-to-particle conversion of NH3 to NH4HSO4 and (NH4)2SO4 and the subsequent exchange reaction between NH3 and NH4+ are responsible for the isotopic enrichment of 15N in aerosol nitrogen.  相似文献

Precipitation samples over the Arabian Sea collected during Arabian Sea Monsoon Experiment (ARMEX) in 2002–2003 were examined for major water soluble components and acidity of aerosols during the period of winter and summer monsoon seasons. The pH of rain water was alkaline during summer monsoon and acidic during winter monsoon. Summer monsoon precipitation showed dominance of sea-salt components (∼90%) and significant amounts of non-sea salt (nss) Ca2+ and SO42−. Winter monsoon precipitation samples showed higher concentration of NO3 and NH4+ compared to that of summer monsoon, indicating more influence of anthropogenic sources. The rain water data is interpreted in terms of long-range transport and background pollution. In summer monsoon, air masses passing over the north African and Gulf continents which may be carrying nss components are advected towards the observational location. Also, prevailing strong southwesterly winds at surface level produced sea-salt aerosols which led to high sea-salt contribution in precipitation. While in winter monsoon, it was observed that, air masses coming from Asian region towards observational location carry more pollutants like NO3and nss SO42− that acidify the precipitation.  相似文献

From March to June 1996, eight rain events were collected by sequential sampling on time and volume basis in Kyoto University, Uji, Japan. Soluble chemical species Cl, NO3, SO42−, Na+, NH4+, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ were measured by Ion Chromatography (IC); and the elements Si, Cl, K, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Br and Pb in insoluble materials were measured by proton-induced X-ray emission (PIXE) technique. The wet-deposition flux of a soluble chemical species (or an element in insoluble materials) was calculated by the product of the chemical species (or the element) concentration and the corresponding rain intensity. The characteristics of sequential cumulative wet-deposition flux of the soluble chemical species and the elements in insoluble materials were examined. The factor controlling wet-deposition flux was discussed.  相似文献

With the aim of understanding the origin of acid rains in South China, we analyzed rainwaters collected from Guangzhou, China, between March 2005 and February 2006. The pH of rainwater collected during the monitoring period varied from 4.22 to 5.87; acid rain represented about 94% of total precipitation during this period. The rainwater was characterized by high concentrations of SO42−, NO3, Ca2+, and NH4+. SO42− and NO3, the main precursors of acid rain, were related to the combustion of coal and fertilizer use/traffic emissions, respectively. Ca2+ and NH4+ act as neutralizers of acid, accounting for the decoupling between high SO42− concentrations and relatively high pH in the Guangzhou precipitation. The acid rain in Guangzhou is most pronounced during spring and summer. A comparison with acid precipitation in other Chinese cities reveals a decreasing neutralization capacity from north to south, probably related to the role and origin of alkaline bases in precipitation.  相似文献

Total suspended particulate (TSP) samples were collected during dust, haze, and two festival events (Holi and Diwali) from February 2009 to June 2010. Pollutant gases (NO2, SO2, and O3) along with the meteorological parameters were also measured during the four pollution events at Agra. The concentration of pollutant gases decreases during dust events (DEs), but the levels of the gases increase during other pollution events indicating the impact of anthropogenic emissions. The mass concentrations were about two times higher during pollution events than normal days (NDs). High TSP concentrations during Holi and Diwali events may be attributed to anthropogenic activities while increased combustion sources in addition to stagnant meteorological conditions contributed to high TSP mass during haze events. On the other hand, long-range transport of atmospheric particles plays a major role during DEs. In the dust samples, Ca2+, Cl?, NO3 ?, and SO4 2? were the most abundant ions and Ca2+ alone accounted for 22 % of the total ionic mass, while during haze event, the concentrations of secondary aerosols species, viz., NO3 ?, SO4 2?, and NH4 +, were 3.6, 3.3, and 5.1 times higher than the normal days. During Diwali, SO4 2? concentration (17.8 μg?m?3) was highest followed by NO3 ?, K+, and Cl? while the Holi samples were strongly enriched with Cl? and K+ which together made up 32.7 % of the total water-soluble ions. The ion balances indicate that the haze samples were acidic. On the other hand, Holi, Diwali, and DE samples were enriched with cations. The carbonaceous aerosol shows strong variation with the highest concentration during Holi followed by haze, Diwali, DEs, and NDs. However, the secondary organic carbon concentration follows the order haze > DEs > Diwali > Holi > NDs. The scanning electron microscope/EDX results indicate that KCl and carbon-rich particles were more dominant during Holi and haze events while DE samples were enriched with particles of crustal origin.  相似文献

Atmospheric deposition is an important removal process of aerosol particles and gases from the atmosphere. To elucidate the relative contributions of wet and dry processes and in-cloud and below-cloud scavenging based on deposition amounts in winter at Mt. Tateyama, central Japan, we obtained daily samples (December, 2006–March, 2007) of size-segregated aerosol particles and precipitation at Senjyugahara (SJ; 475 m a.s.l.) and vertical samples of spring snow cover at Murododaira (MR, 2450 m a.s.l., 13 km distance from SJ) on the western flank of Mt. Tateyama. The NH4+ and nssSO42? in aerosols were mostly found in the fine fraction (<2 μm), although Na+, NO3?, and nssCa2+ were mainly detected in the coarse fraction (>2 μm). Average ionic concentrations (μg g?1) in precipitation at SJ were higher about 3.8 for Na+ and nssCa2+, 3.4 for NO3?, 3.7 for NH4+, 2.5 for nssSO42? than those at MR, whereas cumulative precipitation amounts at SJ and MR were, respectively, 84 and 175 cm of water equivalent. Wet and dry deposition amounts during the study period were estimated for sites using size-segregated aerosol data, winter averages of HNO3, NH3, and SO2 concentrations, and dry deposition velocities. Particle-dry deposition comprised about 3% (Na+) to 11% (NH4+) of the total deposition at MR. The maximum amounts of gas dry deposition were estimated, respectively, as 4, 13, and 3% of the total deposition at MR for NH4+, NO3?, and nssSO42?. The relative contributions of below-cloud scavenging (BCS) between MR and SJ were estimated as considering the wet only deposition amount at MR. Higher contributions of BCS were obtained for Na+ (56%) and nssCa2+ (45%), whereas BCSs for NH4+, NO3?, and nssSO42? were lower than 28%. Ionic constituents existing predominantly in the coarse fraction showed a large contribution of BCS.  相似文献

To investigate the chemical characteristics of precipitation in the polluted coastal atmosphere, a total of 46 event-based precipitation samples were collected using a wet-only automatic precipitation collector from September 2006 to October 2007 at metropolitan Newark, New Jersey in the US East Coast. Samples were analyzed by ion chromatography for the concentrations of major inorganic ions (Cl, NO3, SO42−, F, NH4+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Na+, K+) and organic acid species (CH3COO, HCOO, CH2(COO)22−, C2O42−). Selected trace metals (Sb, Pb, Al, V, Fe, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd) in samples were determined by ICPMS. Mass concentration results show that SO42− was the most dominant anion accounting for 51% of the total anions, controlling the acidity of the precipitation. NH4+ accounted for 48.6% of the total cations, dominating the precipitation neutralization. CH3COO and HCOO were the two dominant water-soluble organic acid species, accounting for 42% and 40% of the total organic acids analyzed, respectively. Al, Zn and Fe were the three major trace metals in precipitation, accounting for 34%, 27%, and 25% of the total mass of metals analyzed. The pH values in precipitation ranged from 4.4 to 4.9, indicating an acidic nature. Enrichment Factor (EF) Analysis showed that Na+, Cl, Mg2+ and K+ in the precipitation were primarily of marine origin, while most of the Fe, Co and Al were from crust sources. Pb, V, Cr, Ni were moderately enriched with EFs ranging 43–410, while Zn, Sb, Cu, Cd and F were highly enriched with EFs > 700, indicating significant anthropogenic influences. Factor analysis suggests 6 major sources contributing to the observed composition of precipitation at this location: (1) nitrogen-enriched soil, (2) secondary pollution processes, (3) marine sources, (4) incinerations, (5) oil combustions, and (6) malonate–vanadium enriched sources. To further explore the source–precipitation event relationships and seasonality, cluster analysis was performed for all precipitation events. Results show that about half of the precipitation events were characterized by mixed sources. Significant influences of nitrogen-enriched soil and marine sources were associated with precipitation events in spring and autumn, while secondary pollution processes, incineration and oil combustion contributed greatly in summer.  相似文献

Concentrations of several major rainwater components were determined in rain events occurring during the early morning hours (12:00 midnight to 6:00 a.m.) and during the afternoon (12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m.) to examine possible diurnal variations. Generally, rainwater components with gas phase origins (H+, NO3, formaldehyde, H2O2, formic acid, acetic acid, pyruvic acid, oxalic acid, and lactic acid) had higher concentrations during p.m. rain events compared to a.m. events. Although source strengths of both biogenic and anthropogenic rainwater components are generally higher during the daytime, nocturnal removal of a wide variety of components in similar proportions (approximately 2–3× less at night) indicates a physical rather than a chemical process affecting diurnal variations. Rainwater components with aerosol origins (Cl, and SO42−) displayed the opposite diurnal pattern or showed no diurnal variation. Possible reasons for these variations include one or both of the following scenarios: (1) the formation of dew at night removes gas phase atmospheric gasses but not aerosols or (2) during the night, a marine air mass containing lower concentrations of all analytes and higher concentrations of Cl is advected into the area.  相似文献

A series of experiments using bulk precipitation collectors of the type used in the UK precipitation chemistry network measured the amounts of NH4+, SO42− and other ions that could be washed from funnels (diameter 15 cm) exposed to a wide range of NH3 and SO2 concentrations over periods from hours to days. In dry conditions, the average deposition flux of NH3 was between 50 and 120 nmol NH4+ funnel−1 d−1 (0.1–0.3 kg N ha−1 yr−1), and was independent of the concentration of NH3. Dry deposition of NH3 to wet funnels at small NH3 concentrations was almost 5 times that to dry funnels under the same conditions (average 240 nmol funnel−1 d−1; 0.7 kg ha−1 yr−1), and increased with increasing NH3 concentrations. The amount of NH4+ ions remaining on the funnel surface was inversely proportional to the vapour pressure deficit during the experiment. This result was interpreted as a dependence on the duration of surface wetness, with greater deposition of NH4+ when evaporation rates of surface water were small. The amount of SO2 deposited on funnel surfaces was closely related to the amount of NH3 deposited, in both wet and dry conditions, but was not strongly correlated with the SO2 concentration. At low NH3 and SO2 concentrations the average deposition to dry funnels was 70 nmol SO42− funnel−1 d−1 (0.5 kg ha−1 yr−1), and to wet funnels was approximately 2.5 times larger. The results are interpreted in terms of the balance between the rate of evaporation of surface water, and the rate of oxidation of SO2, which leads to the ‘fixing’ of NH4+ ions on the surface as involatile salts. It is predicted that dry deposition of NH3 to funnel surfaces across the UK Secondary Network could account for as much as one-half of the measured bulk wet deposition at sites where wet deposition of NH4–N is small. The amount of dry deposition depends on how long and how often funnel surfaces are wetted by rain or dew, and on the air concentrations of NH3. These predictions are based on funnels being wetted only once per day. More frequent wetting would increase the contribution from dry deposition, and the consequent overestimate of wet deposition of NH4–N across the UK by using data obtained from bulk collectors. To some extent this overestimate may be offset by microbial degradation and loss of NH4–N in weekly bulk precipitation samples during collection and storage.  相似文献

On the basis of the recently estimated emission inventory for East Asia with a resolution of 1×1°, the transport and chemical transformation of sulfur compounds over East Asia during the period of 22 February through 4 May 2001 was investigated by using the Models-3 Community Multi-scale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system with meteorological fields calculated by the regional atmospheric modeling system (RAMS). For evaluating the model performance simulated concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and aerosol sulfate (SO42−) were compared with the observations on the ground level at four remote sites in Japan and on board aircraft and vessel during the transport and chemical evolution over the Pacific and Asian Pacific regional aerosol characterization experiment field campaigns, and it was found that the model reproduces many of the important features in the observations, including horizontal and vertical gradients. The SO2 and SO42− concentrations show pronounced variations in time and space, with SO2 and SO42− behaving differently due to the interplay of chemical conversion, removal and transport processes. Analysis of model results shows that emission was the dominant term in regulating the SO2 spatial distribution, while conversion of SO2 to SO42− in the gas phase and the aqueous phase and wet removal were the primary factors that controlled SO42− amounts. The gas phase and the aqueous phase have the same importance in oxidizing SO2, and about 42% sulfur compounds (25% in SO2) emitted in the model domain was transported out, while about 57% (35% by wet removal processes) was deposited in the domain during the study period.  相似文献

The effects of (NH4)2SO4, NH4NO3, NaCl, NH4Cl, and Na2SO4 aerosols on the kinetics of 1-propanol oxidation in the presence of the hydroxyl radical have been investigated using the relative rate technique. p-Xylene was used as a reference compound. Two different aerosol concentrations that are typical of polluted urban conditions were tested. The total surface areas of aerosols were 1400 (condition I) and 3400 μm2 cm−3 (condition II). Results indicate that aerosols promote the oxidation of 1-propanol, and the extents of the promoting effects depend on the aerosol composition and concentration. Increases in the relative rates of the 1-propanol/OH reaction vs. the p-xylene/OH reaction were only observed for (NH4)2SO4 aerosol conditions I and II, NH4NO3 aerosol condition II, and NH4Cl aerosol condition II. These results indicate that NH4+ is the species promoting the oxidation of 1-propanol, and suggests the possibility of a strong interaction between NH4+ and 1-propanol that can change the activation energy of the initial OH attack. These results have profound implications on the use of air quality models for the assessment of air pollution control strategies.  相似文献

Over three years (1993–1995) daily PM-10 aerosol samples were collected at two locations in Saxony, at the rural measurement station Melpitz and at the north-eastern border of Leipzig. By using ion chromatography the water soluble ions Na+, NH+4, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl-, NO-3and SO2-4 were analysed daily. Soot was detected by reflectance measurement and gravimetric analysis. Major trends during this period were observed for soot, nitrate, sulphate and calcium. Some components had typical seasonal distributions, e.g. soot, nitrate and sulphate. The rural station Melpitz was influenced more strongly by the power plants at both sides of the Polish border than the urban area of Leipzig-Halle. During inversion periods, maxima of all aerosol components were measured. However, the highest concentrations during inversion periods decreased during the last years at both locations.  相似文献
