This work focuses on bulk deposition in a rural area located around a large coal-fired power station in northeast Spain. Deposition chemistry was characterised by high concentrations of SO(4)(2-), Ca(2+) and NH(4)(+), which were relatively high when compared with other rural areas. Monthly bulk deposition evolution of major ions was the result of two superimposed patterns: one pattern related to the volume of precipitation and the other showed the seasonal influence of the major ionic sources. A major local origin was attributed to bulk deposition of SO(4)(2-), NH(4)(+), and Ca(2+), whereas a relatively higher contribution of an external source was deduced for NO(3)(-), Na(+) and Cl(-). The SO(4)(2-) concentrations showed a significant correlation with the local SO(2) emissions. High levels of Ca(2+) were due to the high alkalinity of soils in the study area, although an external origin was attributed to the frequent air mass intrusions from the Sahara. Sources of NH(4)(+) were related to intensive livestock farming in the area. Total suspended particles exert a marked influence over bulk deposition and neutralisation. Thus, despite the high emissions of SO(2) in the area, neutral pH values have always been attained given that the concentrations of Ca(2+) and NH(4)(+) account for the total neutralisation of NO(3)(-) and SO(4)(2-).  相似文献

The characterization for water-soluble species of total suspended particulate (TSP), dry deposition flux, and dry deposition velocity (V(d)) were studied at Taichung Harbor (TH) and Wuchi traffic sampling sites at offshore sampling site near Taiwan Strait of central Taiwan during March 2004-January 2005. The average concentrations of TSP and dry deposition flux at the TH sampling site were higher than at the WT sampling site during the sampling period. The samples collected were analyzed by a ion chromatography (DIONEX-100) for the ionic species (Cl(-), SO(4)(2-), NO(3)(-), NH(4)(+), Na(+), Ca(2+), and Mg(2+)) analysis. The dominant ionic species for TSP are SO(4)(2-), NO(3)(-), and NH(4)(+) of the total mass of the inorganic ions at both sampling sites. In addition, the results indicated that the NH(4)(+), NO(3)(-) and SO(4)(2-) showed higher concentrations in winter and lower in summer for both TH and Wuchi sampling sites. Statistical methods such as correlation coefficient and principal component analysis were also used to identify the possible pollutant source.  相似文献

A previous assessment of nitrogen loading to the Delaware Inland Bays indicates that atmospheric deposition provides 15-25% of the total, annual N input to these estuaries. A large and increasing fraction of the atmospheric wet flux is NH(4)(+), which for most aquatic organisms represents the most readily assimilated form of this nutrient. Particularly noteworthy is a 60% increase in the precipitation NH(4)(+) concentration at Lewes, DE over the past 20 years, which parallels the increase in poultry production on the Delmarva Peninsula over this period (currently standing at nearly 585 million birds annually). To further examine the relationship between local NH(3) emissions and deposition, biweekly-integrated gaseous NH(3) concentrations were determined using Ogawa passive samplers deployed at 13 sampling sites throughout the Inland Bays watershed over a one-year period. Annual mean concentrations at the 13 sites ranged from <0.5 microg NH(3)m(-3) to >6 microg NH(3)m(-3), with a mean of 1.6+/-1.0 microg NH(3)m(-3). At most sites, highest NH(3) concentrations were evident during spring and summer, when fertilizer application and poultry house ventilation rates are greatest, and seasonally elevated temperatures induce increased rates of microbial activity and volatilization from soils and animal wastes. The observed north-to-south concentration gradient across the watershed is consistent with the spatial distribution of poultry houses, as revealed by a GIS analysis of aerial photographs. Based on the average measured NH(3) concentration and published NH(3) deposition rates to water surfaces (5-8 mm s(-1)), the direct atmospheric deposition of gaseous NH(3) to the Inland Bays is 3.0-4.8 kg ha(-1)yr(-1). This input, not accounted for in previous assessments of atmospheric loading to the Inland Bays, would effectively double the estimated direct dry deposition rate, and is on par with the NO(3)(-) and NH(4)(+) wet fluxes. A second component of this study examined spatial differences in NO(3)(-) and NH(4)(+) wet deposition within the Inland Bays watershed. In a pilot study, precipitation composition at the Lewes NADP-AIRMoN site (DE 02) was compared with that at a satellite site established at Riverdale on the Indian River Estuary, approximately 21 km southwest. While the volume-weighted mean precipitation NO(3)(-) concentrations did not differ significantly between sites, the NH(4)(+) concentration observed at Riverdale (26.3 micromoles L(-1)) was 73% greater than at Lewes (15.2 micromoles L(-1)). More recently, a NADP site was established at Trap Pond, DE (DE 99), which was intentionally located within the region of intense poultry production. A comparison of the initial two years (6/2001-5/2003) of precipitation chemistry data from Trap Pond with other nearby NADP-AIRMoN sites (Lewes and Smith Island) reveals fairly homogeneous NO(3)(-) wet deposition, but significant spatial differences ( approximately 60%) in the NH(4)(+) wet flux. Overall, these results suggest that local emissions and below-cloud scavenging provide a significant contribution to regional atmospheric N deposition.  相似文献

In the vicinity of a large ammonia emission area, dry and wet deposition of acidifying and eutrophying compounds onto Douglas Fir forests was studied by sampling throughfall, stemflow and bulk precipitation. Deposition amounts of NH(4)(+) and SO(4)(2-) were recognised to be among the highest of Central Europe, resulting in extremely high inputs of (potential) acid to the forest soils (13.1 kEq ha(-1) year(-1)). The contribution of NH(3) emissions from agriculture to the total acid deposition to the forests was 52%. The total nitrogen deposition amounted to 115.0 kg ha(-1) year(-1), 83% originating from NH(3) emissions and 17% from NO(x) emissions. Calculated mean dry deposition velocities of NH(3) and SO(2) were much larger than reported in the literature. A synergistic effect between NH(3) and SO(2) in the process of dry deposition is suggested and evidence for this effect is discussed. When deposition models do not take this interaction into account, they will underestimate NH(3) and SO(2) deposition amounts in areas with intensive animal husbandry.  相似文献

Little is known about the concentrations, deposition rates, and effects of nitrogenous and sulfurous compounds in photochemical smog in the San Bernardino National Forest (SBNF) in southern California. Dry deposition of NO(3)(-) and NH(4)(+) to foliage of ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Laws.) and Jeffrey pine (Pinus jeffreyi Grev. & Balf.) was correlated (R = 0.83-0.88) with historical average hourly O(3) concentations at 10 sites across an O(3) gradient in the SBNF. Mean deposition fluxes of NO(3)(-) to ponderosa and Jeffrey pine branches were 0.82 nmol M(-2)s(-1) at Camp Paivika (CP), a high-pollution site, and 0.19 nmol m(-2) s(-1) at Camp Osceola (CAO), a low-pollution site. Deposition fluxes of NH(4)(+) were 0.32 nmol m(-2) s(-1) at CP and 0.17 nmol m(-2) s(-1) at CAO, while mean values for SO(4)(2-) were 0.03 at CP and 0.02 nmol m(-2) s(-1) at CAO. Deposition fluxes to paper and nylon filters were higher in most cases than fluxes to pine branches at the same site. The results of this study suggest that an atmospheric concentration and deposition gradient of N and S compounds occurs along with the west-east O(3) gradient in the SBNF. Annual stand-level dry deposition rates for S and N at CP and CAO were estimated. Further studies are needed to determine if high N deposition loads in the SBNF significantly affect plant/soil nutrient relations, tree health, and the response of ponderosa pine to ozone.  相似文献

Site and regional trends in seasonally averaged particle SO4(2-) concentrations were examined for a large portion of the United States using data collected by the CASTNet air monitoring network. Trends were analyzed for overlapping periods of 1988-1999 and 1992-1999. The largest absolute SO4(2-) decreases--approximately -0.4 microg/m3/yr--between 1988 and 1999 occurred in summer for sites in the Ohio River Valley and areas to the east. Generally, the largest SO4(2-) reductions were found for summer, but larger relative reductions often occurred for spring and autumn. Sulfate changes during 1992-1999 were quite different from those found for 1988-1999 and were not entirely consistent with changes in SO2 emissions. In some locations, the 1992-1999 period saw smaller declines in SO4(2-), while in other places seasonal SO4(2-) actually increased. Increases were mostly confined to summer and autumn across the southern and southwestern states. Multivariate analysis of ambient sulfur levels, by region, versus SO2 emissions reveals that annual emissions are associated with more than 80% of the variance in seasonal sulfur (SO2 and SO4(2-)) in more than three-quarters of the cases examined. The weakest associations were found for the southeastern United States.  相似文献

Atmospheric deposition to the edge of a spruce forest in Denmark   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6
Atmospheric deposition was measured during 1 year at the forest edge of a Norway spruce stand in Denmark. Inside the forest the deposition of H(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Na(+), K(+), Cl(-), NO(3)(-), NH(4)(2) and SO(4)(2-) with canopy throughfall varies with the distance from the forest edge. The deposition at the edge is found to be 10-20 times as high as deposition to an open field and 2-8 times as high as deposition inside the stand. An exponential decrease in deposition as a function of the distance from the forest edge is found. Increased deposition of K(+) and non-sea salt Mg(2+), which mainly originates as a result of leaching from the needles may be explained by a larger leaf area index (LAI) at the forest edge. Deposition of particulate substances, especially Na(+), Cl(-), Mg(2+) and to some extent SO(4)(2-), NH(4)(+) and NO(3)(-) is increased much more than the LAI, which we believe to be caused by changes in wind movements at the forest edge.  相似文献

Topographic and meteorological conditions make the Columbia River Gorge (CRG) an 'exhaust pipe' for air pollutants generated by the Portland-Vancouver metropolis and Columbia Basin. We sampled fog, bulk precipitation, throughfall, airborne particulates, lichen thalli, and nitrophytic lichen distribution. Throughfall N and S deposition were high, 11.5-25.4 and 3.4-6.7 kg ha(-1) over 4.5 months at all 9 and 4/9 sites, respectively. Deposition and lichen thallus N were highest at eastern- and western-most sites, implicating both agricultural and urban sources. Fog and precipitation pH were frequently as low as 3.7-5.0. Peak NO(x), NH(3), and SO(2) concentrations in the eastern CRG were low, suggesting enhanced N and S inputs were largely from particulate deposition. Lichens indicating nitrogen-enriched environments were abundant and lichen N and S concentrations were 2x higher in the CRG than surrounding national forests. The atmospheric deposition levels detected likely threaten Gorge ecosystems and cultural resources.  相似文献

The relationship between emissions and deposition of air pollutants, both spatially and in time forms an important focus for science and for policy makers. In practice, this relationship may become nonlinear if the underlying processes change with time, or in space. Nonlinearities may also appear due to errors in emission or deposition data, and careful scrutiny of both data sources and their relationship provides a means of picking up such deficiencies. Nonlinearities in source receptor relationships for sulfur and nitrogen compounds in Europe have been identified in measurement data for the UK. In the case of sulfur, the dry deposition process has been shown to be strongly influenced by ambient concentrations of NH3, leading to substantial increases in deposition rate as SO2 concentrations decline and the ratio SO2/NH3 decreases. The field evidence extends to measurements over three different surfaces in three countries across Europe. A mechanistic understanding of the cause of this nonlinearity has been provided. Apparent nonlinearities also exist in the sulfur deposition field through the influence of shipping emissions. The effect is clear at west coast locations, where during a period in which land-based sulfur emissions declined by 50%, no significant decline in concentrations of SO(2-) in precipitation were observed. The sites affected are primarily the coastal regions of southwestern UK, where shipping sources contribute a substantial fraction of the deposited sulfur, but the effect is not detectable elsewhere. Full quantification of the spatially disaggregated emission and their changes in time will eliminate this apparent nonlinearity in the source-receptor data. For oxidized nitrogen emission and deposition in the UK, there is strong evidence of nonlinearity in the source-receptor relationship. The concentrations and deposition of NO(3-) in precipitation have declined little following a reduction in emissions of 45% during the period 1987 to 2001. The data imply a significant decrease in the average transport distance for oxidized nitrogen and most probably an increase in the average oxidation rate. However, the net effect of changes in aerosol chemistry due to changes in sulfur emissions and less competition for the main oxidants as a consequence of reductions in sulfur emission have not been separated. A quantitative explanation of the cause of this nonlinearity is lacking and the effects are therefore identified as an important uncertainty for the development of further protocols to control acidification, eutrophication and photochemical oxidants in Europe.  相似文献

Size fractionated chemical speciation of acidic aerosols were performed for ammonium sulfate, other sulfates, ammonium nitrate and other nitrates in a sub-tropical industrial area, Bina, India during December 2003 to November 2004. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed highly significant temporal variations (p > .001) in the concentrations of nitrate and sulfate aerosols in all the three size fractions (fine, mid-size and coarse). Winter demonstrated utmost concentrations of ammonium sulfate, which ranged from 3.2 to 26.4 microg m(-3) in fine particles and 0.20-0.34 microg m(-3) in coarse particles. Ammonium sulfate was chiefly in fine mode (43.77% of total particulate sulfate) as compared to coarse particles (28.60% of total particulate sulfate). The major fraction Ammonium sulfate existed in different forms in atmospheric aerosols, for example NH4Fe(SO4)2, (NH4)2SO4, (NH4)3H(SO4)2 in fine particles, and (NH4)4(NO3)SO4+ in coarse particles. Other sulfate concentrations were also higher during winter ranging from 1.89 to 14.3 microg m(-3) in fine particles and 0.12-0.65microg m(-3) in coarse particles. Ammonium nitrate constituted the major fraction of total particulate nitrate all through the year and was principally in fine particles (the highest concentration in January i.e. 14.2 microg m(-3)). Other nitrates were mainly distributed in the fine particles (highest concentration in January i.e. 11.2 microg m(-3)) All the sulfate and nitrate species were mainly distributed in fine mode and have significant impact on human health.  相似文献

A thermodynamic equilibrium model, Simulating Composition of Atmospheric Particles at Equilibrium (SCAPE2), was used to investigate the response of fine particulate NO3(-) to changes in concentrations of HNO3, NH3, and SO4(2-) in the southeastern United States. The data consisted of daily, 24-hr time resolution measurements from the Aerosol Research Inhalation Epidemiology Study (ARIES) Jefferson Street (Atlanta) site and five other sites of the Southeastern Aerosol Research and Characterization Project (SEARCH). Reductions of total NH3 (gas-phase NH3 plus particulate NH4(+)), total NO3(-) (HNO3 plus particulate NO3(-)), SO4(2-), or combined total NO3(-) (HNO3 plus particulate NO3(-)) with SO4(2-) were used to estimate the effects of changing emission levels. The conversion of SO2 to SO4(2-) and NO2 to HNO3 involves additional nonlinear reactions not incorporated into the model. For all sites, fine particulate NO3(-) concentrations decreased in response to reductions of either NH3 or total NO3(-), but the particulate NO3(-) decreases were greater for the NH3 reductions than for the total NO3(-) reductions. Particulate NO3(-) concentrations increased in response to reductions of SO4(2-). For the combined reduction (total NO3(-) plus SO4(2-)), the resulting particulate NO3(-) concentrations were on average no different than the base-case NO3(-) levels. Measurements of fine particulate NO3(-) and HNO3 support the modeling conclusions and indicate that particulate NO3(-) formation is limited by the availability of NH3 at most times at all SEARCH sites.  相似文献

To evaluate the changes in sulphur pools in response to acidic deposition, two studies were made-one in southwest Sweden where podzolic B horizons originally sampled in 1951 were resampled in 1989. At the Norrliden site, northern Sweden, sulphur pools in control plots were compared to plots that had been subjected to H(2)SO(4) application between 1971 and 1976. The results show that in southwest Sweden neither organic S nor extractable SO(4)(2-) increased significantly over the 38-year period, despite a decreasing pH and a high S deposition. At Norrliden, about 37% of the applied S was still remaining in the upper and central parts of the Bs horizon, most of which was inorganic sulphate. These contrasting results are explained by intrinsic differences in the soil organic carbon status between the sites-in southwest Sweden, organic carbon concentrations were high which inhibited SO(4)(2-) adsorption. Low organic carbon concentrations and high extractable Fe/Al concentrations promoted SO(4)(2-) adsorption and caused a low subsequent SO(4)(2-) desorption rate at the Norrliden site. The results suggest that sulphate adsorption may be an important mechanism which delays the response in soil chemistry to H(2)SO(4) deposition, provided that soil organic carbon concentrations are low. Organic S retention was not shown to be an important S retention mechanism in any of the sites studied.  相似文献

Emissions of a precursor of acidity in precipitation, sulphur dioxide (SO2), declined in the UK and the EU (15) by 71% and 72%, respectively, between 1986 and 2001, while nitrous oxide emissions declined by about 40%. Acidity in UK precipitation and the deposition of sulphate in precipitation halved during this period, but reductions were larger in the English Midlands than at the west coast and in high rainfall areas (>2000 mm). There is evidence that the smaller reductions in sulphur deposition in the west and south are due in part to shipping sources of SO2. Reductions in sulphur dry deposition (74%) are larger than in wet deposition (45%), due to changes in the canopy resistance to dry deposition. For reduced nitrogen, there has been a small (10%) reduction in emissions and deposition, while for oxidized nitrogen, a substantial reduction in emissions (40%) occurred but wet deposition of nitrate changed by less than 10%.  相似文献

This paper presents measurements of daily sampling of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and its major chemical components at three urban and one rural locations in North Carolina during 2002. At both urban and rural sites, the major insoluble component of PM2.5 is organic matter, and the major soluble components are sulfate (SO4(2-)), ammonium (NH4(+)), and nitrate (NO3(-)). NH4(+) is neutralized mainly by SO4(2-) rather than by NO3(-), except in winter when SO4(2-) concentration is relatively low, whereas NO3(-) concentration is high. The equivalent ratio of NH4(+) to the sum of SO4(2-) and NO3(-) is < 1, suggesting that SO4(2-) and NO3(-) are not completely neutralized by NH4(+). At both rural and urban sites, SO4(2-) concentration displays a maximum in summer and a minimum in winter, whereas NO3(-) displays an opposite seasonal trend. Mass ratio of NO3(-) to SO4(2-) is consistently < 1 at all sites, suggesting that stationary source emissions may play an important role in PM2.5 formation in those areas. Organic carbon and elemental carbon are well correlated at three urban sites although they are poorly correlated at the agriculture site. Other than the daily samples, hourly samples were measured at one urban site. PM2.5 mass concentrations display a peak in early morning, and a second peak in late afternoon. Back trajectory analysis shows that air masses with lower PM2.5 mass content mainly originate from the marine environment or from a continental environment but with a strong subsidence from the upper troposphere. Air masses with high PM2.5 mass concentrations are largely from continental sources. Our study of fine particulate matter and its chemical composition in North Carolina provides crucial information that may be used to determine the efficacy of the new National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) for PM fine. Moreover, the gas-to-particle conversion processes provide improved prediction of long-range transport of pollutants and air quality.  相似文献

Since 1994 the nickel-processing plant at the Cu-Ni smelter at Harjavalta, south-west Finland, has emitted considerable amounts of NH(3) into the atmosphere. The effects of NH(3) emissions on nitrogen and sulphur deposition in throughfall and the foliar nutrient status were investigated in a Scots pine stand at 0.5 km distance. Bulk deposition, stand throughfall and percolation water (20 cm depth) samples were collected at 4-week intervals during 1992-1998. pH and the Ca, Mg, K, NH(4) and SO(4) concentrations were determined on the samples. NH(3) emissions have strongly increased the scavenging of SO(2) from the air in the pine stand, and the increased levels of N and S deposition were clearly evident as increased foliar N and S concentrations and larger needle size. The increased input of SO(4) into the forest floor was not associated with an increase in the leaching of Ca and Mg from the surface soil layers.  相似文献

The importance of dry deposition was assessed at perimeter and interior locations in two vegetative canopies. Dry deposition was measured directly by washing particles from leaves. Ambient particles and gases were also collected at both locations within the canopies. Ambient concentrations on the canopy interior were decreased relative to perimeter concentrations due to dry deposition scavenging by the canopy. The least scavenging was found for SO(4)(2-) and NH(4)(+) and the highest scavenging was found for HNO(3). Dry deposition of all species was higher to perimeter vegetative and surrogate surfaces than to interior surfaces, due both to the lower concentrations and the lower wind speeds in the sheltered interior. Deposition velocities compared well with other experimental and theoretical values.  相似文献

Ambient measurements were made using two sets of annular denuder system during the four seasons (April 2001 to February 2002) and were then compared with the results during the period of 1996-1997 to estimate the trends and seasonal variations in concentrations of gaseous and fine particulate matter (PM2.5) principal species. Annual averages of gaseous HNO3 and NH3 increased by 11% and 6%, respectively, compared with those of the previous study, whereas HONO and SO2 decreased by 11% and 136%, respectively. The PM2.5 concentration decreased by -17%, 35% for SO4(2-), and 29% for NH4+, whereas NO3- increased by 21%. Organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) were 12.8 and 5.98 microg/m(-3), accounting for -26 and 12% of PM2.5 concentration, respectively. The species studied accounted for 84% of PM2.5 concentration, ranging from 76% in winter to 97% in summer. Potential source contribution function (PSCF) analysis was used to identify possible source areas affecting air pollution levels at a receptor site in Seoul. High possible source areas in concentrations of PM2.5, NO3-, SO4(2-), NH4+, and K+ were coastal cities of Liaoning province (possibly emissions from oil-fired boilers on ocean liners and fishing vessels and industrial emissions), inland areas of Heibei/Shandong provinces (the highest density areas of agricultural production and population) in China, and typical port cities (Mokpo, Yeosu, and Busan) of South Korea. In the PSCF map for OC, high possible source areas were also coastal cities of Liaoning province and inland areas of Heibei/Shandong provinces in China. In contrast, high possible source areas of EC were highlighted in the south of the Yellow Sea, indicating possible emissions from oil-fired boilers on large ships between South Korea and Southeast Asia. In summary, the PSCF results may suggest that air pollution levels in Seoul are affected considerably by long-range transport from external areas, such as the coastal zone in China and other cities in South Korea, as well as Seoul itself.  相似文献

Acid neutralization of precipitation in Northern China   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
There is an increasing concern over the impact of human-related emissions on the acid precipitation in China. However, few measurements have been conducted so far to clarify the acid-neutralization of precipitation on a regional scale. Under a network of 10 sites across Northern China operated during a 3-year period from December 2007 to November 2010, a total of 1118 rain and snow samples were collected. Of this total, 28% was acid precipitation with pH < 5.6. Out of these acid samples, 53% were found heavily acidic with pH value below 5.0, indicating significantly high levels of acidification of precipitation. Most of the acidity of precipitation was caused by H2SO4 and HNO3, their relative contribution being 72% and 28%, respectively. However; the contribution of HNO3 to precipitation acidity will be enhanced due to the increasing NO(x) and stable SO2 emissions in future. Neutralization factors for K+, NH4+, Ca2+, Na+, and Mg2+ were estimated as 0.06, 0.71, 0.72, 0.15, and 0.13, respectively. The application of multiple regression analysis further quantified higher NH4+ and Ca2+ contribution to the neutralization process, but the dominant neutralizing agent varied from site to site. The neutralization was less pronounced in the rural than urban areas, probably due to different levels of alkaline species, which strongly buffered the acidity. Presence of high concentrations of basic ions was mainly responsible for high pH of precipitation with annual volume-weighted mean (VWM) values larger than 5.6 at several sites. It was estimated that in the absence of buffering ions, for the given concentration of SO4(2-) and NO3-, the annual VWM pH of precipitation would have been recorded around 3.5 across Northern China. This feature suggested that emissions of particles and gaseous NH3 played very important role in controlling the spatial variations of pH of precipitation in the target areas.  相似文献

Agriculture releases copious fertilizing pollutants to air sheds and waterways of the northwestern United States. To evaluate threats to natural resources and historic rock paintings in remote Hells Canyon, Oregon and Idaho, deposition of ammonia (NH3), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) at five stations along 60 km of the Snake River valley floor were passively sampled from July 2002 through June 2003, and ozone data and particulate chemistry were obtained from the Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) station at Hells Canyon. NH3 concentrations were high; biweekly averages peaked at 5-19 ppb in spring and summer and the nutrient-laden Snake River is a likely source. Fine particulate ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) averaged 2.6 microg/m3 during the 20% of worst visibility days with winter drainage of air masses from the Snake River Basin and possibly long distance transport from southern California. Other pollutants were within background ranges. NH3 is corrosive to clay-based pictographs; nitrogen deposition can alter natural biotic communities and terrestrial ecosystem processes at levels reported here.  相似文献

Concentrations of air pollutants were monitored during the May November 1999 period on a network of forested sites in Sequoia National Park, California. Measurements were conducted with: (1) active monitors for nitric oxide (NO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3); (2) honeycomb denuder/filter pack systems for nitric acid vapor (HNO3), nitrous acid vapor (HNO2), ammonia (NH3), sulfur dioxide (SO2), particulate nitrate (NO3-), ammonium (NH4+), and sulfate (SO4(2-)); and (3) passive samplers for O3, HNO3 and NO2. Elevated concentrations of O3 (seasonal means 41-71 ppb), HNO3 (seasonal means 0.4-2.9 microg/m3), NH3 (seasonal means 1.6-4.5 microg/m3), NO3 (1.1-2.0 microg/m3) and NH4+ (1.0-1.9 microg/m3) were determined. Concentrations of other pollutants were low. With increasing elevation and distance from the pollution source area of O3, NH3 and HNO3 concentrations decreased. Ammonia and NH4+ were dominant N pollutants indicating strong influence of agricultural emissions on forests and other ecosystems of the Sequoia National Park.  相似文献
