We used natural abundance measurements of stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes and a short-term 15N-enrichment experiment to explore the importance of river-derived and autochthonous sources to the diet of intertidal suspension-feeding bivalves in the Ría de Arosa, an oceanic-dominated system in northwest Spain. Highly seasonal and intense phytoplankton "bloom" events occur in this estuary. However, relatively low phytoplankton standing crop and productivity are present during much of the year, suggesting that food sources other than phytoplankton must support bivalves during these periods. Bivalves (Cerastoderma edule, Tapes decussatus, Mytilus galloprovincialis) were sampled quarterly at four intertidal stations along the length of the estuary with increasing distance from the Ulla River. Muscle tissue was consistently enriched in 13C and 15N relative to stomach contents. The stable C isotope values of bivalves indicated that river-derived inputs were, at most, a minor component of diet. These values suggested the potential importance of benthic microalgae to bivalve diet much of the year and the incorporation of 15N label applied to the sediment surface into stomach contents and muscle tissue in a field experiment supported this conclusion. Other labeled components of the microbenthos such as bacteria could also have been ingested. 13C-depleted values of bivalves in May coincided with elevated offshore chlorophyll a concentrations, suggesting the increased use of a phytoplankton source during the spring. We propose that intertidal suspension-feeding bivalves in this estuary use primarily resuspended microbenthos during periods of low phytoplankton concentration, but that phytoplankton increases in relative dietary importance during bloom events.Communicated by P.W. We use field data and a high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) hydrodynamic numerical model to investigate the horizontal transport and dispersion characteristics in the upper reaches of the shallow Río de la Plata estuary, located between the Argentinean and Uruguayan coasts, with the objective of relating the mixing characteristics to the likelihood of algal bloom formation. The 3D hydrodynamic model was validated with an extensive field experiment including both, synoptic profiling and in situ data, and then used to quantify the geographic variability of the local residence time and rate of dispersion. We show that during a high inflow regime, the aquatic environment near the Uruguayan coast, stretching almost to the middle of the estuary, had short residence time and horizontal dispersion coefficient of around 77 \(\mathrm {m}^{2}\,\mathrm {s}^{-1}\) , compared to the conditions along the Argentinean coastal regime where the residence time was much longer and the dispersion coefficient (40 \(\mathrm {m}^{2}\,\mathrm {s}^{-1}\) ) much smaller, making the Argentinian coastal margin more susceptible for algae blooms.  相似文献

Coupled three-dimensional hydrodynamic and ecological numerical simulations were used to investigate the role of transport, stagnation zones and dispersion on inter-annual blooms of the diatom Aulacoseira sp. in the vicinity of the drinking water intakes of the Buenos Aires city (Argentina) in the upper Río de la Plata. Three different summer events were analyzed. First, a mild biomass bloom year (2006–2007), second, a high biomass bloom year (2007–2008) and third, a “normal” no bloom year (2009–2010). Simulated water height, water temperature, suspended solids and chlorophyll \(a\) concentrations patterns compared well with field data. Results revealed that the advection of phytoplankton cells via inflows to the Río de la Plata triggered Aulacoseira sp. blooms in the domain. In addition, excessive growth observed near the drinking water intakes, along the Argentinean margin, were associated with long retention times (stagnant region) and weak horizontal dispersion. Increased concentrations of suspended solids in the water column, in response to re-suspension events, did not prevent the blooms, however, were found to also play a key role in controlling the rate of phytoplankton growth. Finally, a non-dimensional parameter, R, that considers phytoplankton patch size, e-folding growth and dispersion time scales is shown to determine the potential bloom occurrences, as well as bloom intensity; R values higher than 5.7 suggest intense phytoplankton growth. For the mild biomass bloom year, \(R = 7.5\) , for the high biomass bloom year, \(R = 11\) and for the “normal” no bloom year \(R= 0.4\) .  相似文献

The surface abundance and species composition of phytoplankton communities were studied in a section across the continental shelf between the Río de La Plata and the oceanic waters of the Subtropical Convergence, during late spring (November 1999). Algal communities were examined using light microscopy and HPLC-derived (high-performance liquid chromatography) pigment concentrations. The CHEMTAX program was used to estimate the chlorophyll a (chl a) biomass of different algal classes. The inclusion of the most abundant members of the chl c pigment family (chl c1, chl c2, chl c3 and chl c2 monogalactosyldiacylglyceride esters) in the pigment matrix improved the CHEMTAX interpretation of field data. Using this novel approach four haptophyte populations were distinguished across the studied section, even though they had qualitatively similar pigment signatures, although one subtype lacked 19-hexanoyloxyfucoxanthin (Hex-Fuco). Five different phytoplankton assemblages, spatially segregated by the prevailing environmental conditions, were distinguished during the studied period. All of them showed a complex community structure, formed by a background of small-sized cells such as cyanobacteria, cryptophytes, haptophytes and prasinophyceans, on which diatom, cryptophyte or some haptophyte blooms were overlapped. In the estuarine assemblage, where maximum chl a concentrations where found, diatoms were always the dominant group (30–60% of total chl a), but cryptophytes (10–40%), prasinophyceans (2–20%) and dinoflagellates (2–12%) were also relevant. In the coastal assemblage diatoms were also the dominant group (35–45%), but haptophytes lacking Hex-Fuco were subdominant (20–35%). The continental shelf assemblage showed an almost exclusive dominance (90%) of haptophytes resembling the coccolithophorid E. huxleyi. Another haptophyte (Phaeocystis sp.) was dominant (75–85%) in the Malvinas Current assemblage. The Brazil Current assemblage was characterized by the codominance of cyanobacteria (45%) and haptophytes (35%). Infection by Bonamia ostreae has caused extensive mortalities of oysters Ostrea edulis through European and United States coasts for at least 25 years. The development of a bonamiosis-resistant strain seems a promising strategy to fight against the disease. As a first step, evaluation of variability in productive traits and disease susceptibility of European populations was performed to identify favourable oyster populations with which to start selective breeding in Galicia (NW Spain). Oysters taken from Greece, Ireland, Ortigueira (Galicia) and Coroso (Galicia) were used as brood stock, and 19 seed families were produced (4–5 families from each origin). The oyster families were used to assess variability through on-growing in an area of the Ría de Arousa heavily affected by bonamiosis. Results showed significant differences in growth, mortality and susceptibility to bonamiosis and other diseases, both between origins and between families under origins. Bonamiosis was associated with mortality in the late stage of oyster on-growing. Indications of natural selection of bonamiosis less-susceptible oysters due to the long exposure of the Ortigueira population to bonamiosis were found. Other symbionts and pathological conditions were detected, of which herpes-like viral infections and disseminated neoplasia could also cause mortality. An index of the overall incidence of pathological conditions (OIPC) was estimated for each family. A significant correlation between the OIPC and the cumulative mortality of the families was noted. On average, oysters from autochthonous origins showed better performance. The results obtained with the best-performing families suggest that the profitability of oyster farming in Galicia would improve, even under bonamiosis pressure, by using appropriate oyster spat.Communicated by S.A. 研究了苯并(a)芘(BaP)暴露对鲫鱼肝脏抗氧化酶的影响.共设置4个处理组,浓度分别为每千克体重0.01mg、0.1mg、1mg和10mg,暴露方式采用腹腔注射,分别在暴露后6h、12h、48h和96h测定肝脏超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过靴氢酶(CAT)和谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶(GPX)活性.结果显示,所有暴露浓度对SOD活性明显抑制,各处理组活性在暴露后6h均低于对照组,在暴露后12h至48h有所回升,暴露后96h又降至对照水平以下.0.01mg kg^-1、0.1mg kg^-1处理组CA3、活性在暴露期间无显著改变,1mg kg^-1、10mg kg^-1处理组CAT活性在暴露后12h显著升高,暴露后96h回落至对照水平以下,此时10mg kg^-1处理组与对照组差异显著.对照组GPX活性在暴露后出现波动,0.1mg kg^-1处理组在暴露后96h显著低于对照组,而其它处理组活性与对照组在暴露期间无显著差异.结果表明,BaP能对鲫鱼肝脏抗氧化酶产生影响,多种抗氧化酶活性相结合可作为BaP暴露的生物标志物.图3参18  相似文献

The aim of this work is to use GIS integration data to characterize sedimentary processes in a SubTropical lagoon environment. The study area was the Cananéia Inlet estuary in the southeastern section of the Cananéia Lagoon Estuarine System (CLES), state of S?o Paulo, Brazil (25°03′S/47°53′W). The area is formed by the confluence of two estuarine channels forming a bay-shaped water body locally called “Trapandé Bay”. The region is surrounded by one of the most preserved tracts of Atlantic Rain Forest in Southwestern Brazil and presents well-developed mangroves and marshes. In this study a methodology was developed using integrated a GIS database based on bottom sediment parameters, geomorphological data, remote sensing images, Hidrodynamical Modeling data and geophysical parameters. The sediment grain size parameters and the bottom morphology of the lagoon were also used to develop models of net sediment transport pathways. It was possible to observe that the sediment transport vectors based on the grain size model had a good correlation with the transport model based on the bottom topography features and Hydrodynamic model, especially in areas with stronger energetic conditions, with a minor contribution of finer sediments. This relation is somewhat less evident near shallower banks and depositional features. In these regions the organic matter contents in the sediments was a good complementary tool for inferring the hydrodynamic and depositional conditions (i.e. primary productivity, sedimentation rates, sources, oxi-reduction rates).  相似文献

分析了大弹涂鱼肌肉、鳃、肝脏、内脏 (不含肝脏 )以及卵巢等的GSH含量 ;并以GSH含量最高的卵巢为研究对象 ,在实验条件下 ,经 0 (CK) ,0 .0 5 ,0 .2和 0 .5mg/L等不同浓度的BaP暴露 7d ,分析其卵巢GSH含量变化的时间 -效应和剂量 -效应特征 ,结果显示 :0 .5mg/L浓度组的大弹涂鱼卵巢GSH含量迅速升高 ,暴露 12h即显著高于CK(P≤ 0 .0 5 ) ,但随暴露时间的延长 ,其GSH含量显著降低 ,7d的样品显著低于CK(P≤ 0 .0 5 ) ;在暴露 3d ,GSH水平与BaP浓度的剂量 -效应关系表现为正相关 ,而在 7d ,则呈负相关 ,这可能表明大弹涂鱼卵巢对BaP暴露由适应性反应到产生毒性效应的过程 .以上研究结果表明 ,卵巢GSH可对BaP暴露作出快速灵敏的反应 ,GSH水平有可能作为具氧化 -还原循环活性的污染物暴露的一种敏感的生物标记 .图 2表 2参 9  相似文献

氧化沥青尾气,是石油工业中重要的污染物质之一。氧化沥青的生产过程一般是渣油在260°—280℃下与空气中的氧反应形成胶质、沥青质的过程。所以在氧化沥青生产时产生了具有窒息性恶臭烃类镏出油及挥发性组份,和通入氧化釜中的空气、工艺注水产生水蒸汽构成氧化沥青污油、污水和尾气,从氧化釜顶排出尾气弥漫于大气中。这种气体除恶臭难闻使人恶心外,它还含有世界公认的强致癌物一苯并(a)芘。以年产10万吨的  相似文献

通过实验室生态毒理实验,研究黑鲷(Sparus macrocephalus)暴露苯并(a)芘(BaP)后,鱼体胆汁中代谢产物3-羟基-苯并(a)芘(3-OH BaP)的剂量-时间-效应关系,结果显示:胆汁中3-OH BaP的浓度随暴露时间的延长呈现先上升然后在7d后开始逐渐降低的变化趋势; 胆汁中3-OH BaP浓度随暴露浓度的升高而不断升高,呈现明显的剂量-效应关系.表明胆汁中的3-OH BaP反映了环境中母体BaP的浓度,是一个有效的污染监测生物标志物,3-OH BaP对于较短时间BaP暴露具有很好的指示作用.  相似文献

本文对玻璃纤维滤膜-XAD-2吸附剂采样系统在平炉烟道中苯并(a)芘的采样效率进行了验证。结果表明,加入的BaP其回收率接近零。在实验室烟道气模拟系统中,以C~(14)-BaP做示踪剂,测定了BaP的回收率。结果表明,造成BaP损失的主要原因是尘粒表面对BaP的强烈吸附和蒸汽状态BaP同NO_2在通过滤膜表面对发生了化学反应。减少烟气中NO_2浓度或降低通过滤膜时烟气的温度,可减少或避免化学反应的发生。在此基础上,建立了空气稀释采样系统,经现场使用,效果良好。  相似文献
