Total diet study (TDS) samples of 14 food groups from 16 locations in Japan, collected in 1999 and 2000, were analyzed for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs), dibenzofurans (PCDFs), and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dioxin-like PCBs) to estimate the update of daily intake of these contaminants from food. The mean daily intake of toxic equivalency (TEQ) for an adult weighing 50 kg, calculated at non-detected isomer concentrations equal to zero (ND=0), was estimated to be 2.25 pg TEQ/kg b.w./day. When non-detected isomer concentrations are assumed to be equal to half of the limits of detection (ND=1/2 LOD), the mean daily intake was estimated to be 3.22 pg TEQ/kg b.w./day. These values were below the tolerable daily intake (TDI) of 4 pg TEQ/kg b.w. for PCDD/Fs and dioxin-like PCBs set in Japan. In both the estimates, the mean daily intakes were highest from fish and shellfish (76.9% at ND=0 and 53.9% at ND=1/2 LOD of the total TEQs), followed by those from meat and eggs (15.5% at ND=0 and 11.7% at ND=1/2 LOD of the total TEQs). Congener specific data revealed that these total TEQ levels were dominated by 1,2,3,7,8-PeCDD, 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF and 3,3′,4,4′,5-PeCB in each case (71.7% at ND=0 and 63.1% at ND=1/2 LOD of the total TEQs). The dioxin-like PCBs (non-ortho and mono-ortho PCBs) accounted for about 50% of these total TEQs. The challenge for sustainability educational programs lies in how to imbue students with the strong motivation necessary to move the world in a more sustainable direction. Five universities in Japan have mutually collaborated in the design and development of a unique curriculum and education system for sustainability science since 2008. Specifically, they have developed a common and remote lecture system called the “Frontier of sustainability science” (FSS). Oxy-fuel combustion systems have been under development to reduce CO2 emissions from coal-fired power plants. In oxy-fuel combustion system, Hg in the flue gas causes corrosion in CO2 purification and compression units. Also, SO3 in the flue gas corrodes the equipment and ducts of oxy-fuel combustion system. Therefore, Hg and SO3 need to be removed.Babcock-Hitachi conducted tests using a 1.5 MWth Combustion & Air Quality Control System (AQCS) test facility which consists of oxygen supply unit, furnace, Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) catalyst, Clean Energy Recuperator (CER), Dry Electrostatic Precipitator (DESP), flue gas recirculation system, Wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (WFGD), and CO2 Compression and Purification Unit (CPU). In both cases of air and oxy-fuel combustion, the Hg removal across the DESP could be improved, and SO3 concentration at the DESP outlet could be reduced to less than 1 ppm by installing a CER upstream of the DESP and reducing the gas temperature at the DESP inlet. Hg was not dissolved in the drain recovered from CO2 compressor, and may be adsorbed at an inner part of CO2 compressor. This indicated that Hg needs to be removed at a location upstream of the CO2 compressor to prevent corrosion of the compressor. 相似文献

Employing a social survey, this paper examines citizen attitudes towards local energy governance in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear power plant accident. The survey found that public comment and random sampling citizen deliberation led to a greater willingness to participate in discussions of municipal heating and power (energy) policy for a resilient community than did conventional citizen committee membership. The former mechanisms provided opportunities for individuals with considered viewpoints to participate in a public dialogue on energy and environment issues in post-disaster Japan. Respondents who did not have clear ideas about a roadmap for nuclear power generation showed a lower willingness to participate in local energy policy formulation processes. 相似文献

This study investigated the effects of hygiene indicator bacteria during the biostimulation of groundwater contaminated with chlorinated ethene. We showed the state of dechlorination activity and behavior of microbial structure by the addition of Escherichia coli (E. coli) as hygiene indicator bacteria in a contaminated groundwater sample. Dechlorination of tetrachloroethene and trichloroethene to cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cis-DCE) within 14 days took place similarly both with and without the addition of E. coli. This indicated that inhibition of against dechlorinating activity of corresponding dechlorinating bacteria was not caused by E. coli. Structural change of the bacterial community was analyzed both before and after dechlorination using a denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and clone library. The result of DGGE detected E. coli only at day 0. A sample at day 14 after dechlorination detected Pseudomonas putida, Anaerosinus glycerini, and Clostridium genus but not E. coli. The result of the clone library also showed an identical profile. Detection of E. coli using desoxycholate media was decreased from 2.3 × 106 cells/ml to 6.0 × 103 cells/ml during day 14. These results suggest that biostimulation of groundwater contaminated by chlorinated ethene in the presence of hygiene bacteria caused the dechlorination without activity inhibition and decrease of dechlorinating bacteria. 相似文献

AbstractA pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) method was presented for the determination of six neonicotinoid pesticides, acetamiprid, clothianidin, dinotefuran, imidacloprid, thiacloprid, and thiamethoxam in green onion. The critical parameters of PLE, e.g. extraction solvent, temperature, pressure, number of cycles, and static extraction time, were optimized by test on the spiked green onion with six neonicotinoids and the incurred green onion applied with four commercial neonicotinoid insecticide formulations (acetamiprid, dinotefuran, imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam). As a result, the recoveries of six neonicotinoids obtained by one cycle PLE with acetonitrile at 140?°C and 50?bar for 10?min were 94.7–99.5%. These results were acceptable according to the validation guideline for testing method of agricultural chemicals in food by Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare in Japan. PLE was also validated by the test on the incurred green onion. The analytical values of four neonicotinoids obtained by PLE were good agreement with those obtained by solid–liquid extraction with homogenizer, which is employed for Japanese official method for the analysis of pesticide residues in food (the ratios of analytical values obtained by PLE to those obtained by solid–liquid extraction were 99.7–101.2%). Radiocarbon concentration in the atmosphere is significantly lower in areas where man-made emissions of carbon dioxide occur. This phenomenon is known as Suess effect, and is caused by the contamination of clean air with non-radioactive carbon from fossil fuel combustion. The effect is more strongly observed in industrial and densely populated urban areas. Measurements of carbon isotope concentrations in a study area can be compared to those from areas of clear air in order to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide emission from fossil fuel combustion by using a simple mathematical model. This can be calculated using the simple mathematical model. The result of the mathematical model followed in this study suggests that the use of annual rings of trees to obtain the secular variations of 14C concentration of atmospheric CO2 can be useful and efficient for environmental monitoring and modeling of the carbon distribution in local scale. 相似文献

We characterized the ability of the cell free extract from polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins degrading bacterium Geobacillus sp. UZO 3 to reduce even highly chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins such as octachlorodibenzo-p-dioxins in incineration fly ash. The degradation of 2,7-dichlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (2,7-DCDD) as a model dioxin catalyzed by the cell free extract from this strain implicates that the ether bonds of 2,7-DCDD molecule undergo reductive cleavage, since 4′,5-dichloro-2-hydroxydiphenyl ether and 4-chlorophenol were detected as intermediate products of 2,7-DCDD degradation. 相似文献
