Because environmental pollution caused by plastic waste is a major problem investigations concerning biodegradable packaging are important and required. In this study, the biodegradation of PCL composite films with organic (glycerol monooleate and oleic acid) and inorganic additives (organo nano clay) was investigated to understand which additive and the amount of additive was more effective for biodegradation. The relationship between the degree of crystallinity and the effect of additives on the biodegradability of polycaprolactone (PCL) was examined. PCL composite films were prepared using organo nano clay (0.1–0.4–1–3 wt%) and oleic acid (1–3–5 wt%) or GMO (1–3–5 wt%). The 35 films prepared with PCL (P), clay (C), oleic acid (O), or glycerol monooleate (G) are coded as P_C#wt%_O (or G)#wt%. The composite films, P_C0.4_O5 contains 0.4 wt% clay and 5 wt% oleic acid and the P_C3_G1 contains 3 wt% clay and 1 wt% glycerol monooleate. The biodegradation of PCL films in simulated soil was studied for 36 months. The films were periodically removed from the simulated soil and film thicknesses, weight losses, visual changes, crystal structures, and a functional group analyses were performed. PCL composite films are separated into three groups, depending on degradation time, (1) films that degraded before 8 months (fast degradation), (2) films that degraded around 24 months (similar to neat PCL), and (3) films that take longer to degrade (slow degradation). The films in the first group are PCL films with 1 and 3 wt% clay additive and they begin to biodegrade at the 5th month. However, a composite film of PCL with only 0.4 wt% clay and 5 wt% GMO addition has the shortest degradation time and degraded in 5 months. The films in the last group are; P_G3, P_G5, P_C0.1, P_C0.1_O1, and P_C0.1_O5 and they took around 30 months for biodegradation. It was observed that increasing the organo nanoclay additive increases the biodegradability by disrupting the crystal structure and causing a defective crystal formation. The addition of GMO with organo nano clay also accelerates biodegradation. The addition of organo nano clay in an amount as small as 0.1 wt% acts as the nucleating agent, increases the degree of crystallinity of the PCL composites, and slows the biodegradation period by increasing the time. 相似文献

Environmental protection and sustainable development are getting increasing attention in the automobile industries. Environmental consciousness has increased, and sustainability has become an important requirement for the management of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs). The proper management of ELVs can bring improved sustainability performance for any society or organisation. There are several alternative options for ELVs management such as reuse, repair, reconditioning, remanufacturing and recycling. Environmental legislation is forcing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to manage their products at the end of their life cycle to reduce their potential environmental impact. An appropriate selection model for sustainable ELV management alternatives in the dynamic, competitive and regulatory environment can enable a firm to satisfy economic, environmental, social and technological requirements. This study proposes an integrated model to select the dimensions and criteria for evaluating sustainable alternatives for the proper management of ELVs. First, the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method is used to select the most important dimensions and criteria for sustainable alternative selection. Next, a hierarchy has been constructed to develop a systematic technique to solve the alternatives selection problem. An analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and extent analysis method on the fuzzy AHP (FEAHP) model have been used based on the hierarchy to evaluate the most suitable alternatives from the sustainability point of view. Incinerators do not achieve a complete mineralization of organic constituents of municipal solid waste. The solid residues (bottom ash, boiler ash and air pollution control residues) contain carbon which can be determined as total organic carbon (TOC). This work focuses on the TOC composition and its significance to the genesis and diagenesis of the solid residues. An analytical procedure is presented to characterize carbon species by different chemical and microscopic analytical methods. The procedure is based on two steps. In the first step a quantitative classification of TOC into four different carbon species (elemental carbon, water extractable organic carbon, dichloromethane extractable organic carbon and non extractable organic carbon) is performed to obtain a first survey of the TOC composition. Based on this survey a further characterization of individual carbon species is performed. The results of the qualitative and quantitative characterization of carbon species allow to postulate hypotheses on the influence of organic carbon on the long-term behavior of the solid residues. 相似文献

Mission assurance policy and risk management are essential in enabling decision makers to ensure successful completion of missions by addressing the security status of cyber assets. This paper presents a novel mission assurance policy that adapts to the dynamic security status of all mission assets to quickly and automatically determine mission assurance level and to decide what changes are needed accordingly. The novelty of this mission assurance policy stems from using a time Petri net model for determining the security status of cyber assets, and then employing binary or multi-valued logic decision diagrams to assess the mission assurance level. The ability of a mission assurance policy to successfully complete its objectives depends mainly on whether a risk management scheme is provided to reduce risk to an acceptable level. To that end, this paper also describes a risk management scheme to systematically deal with the main factors of risk management such as the temporal interdependencies of cyber assets, impact of attacks, and risk mitigation. Given that the status of cyber assets changes due to the dynamic cybersecurity environment of asset vulnerabilities, threats, and recovery, the proposed mission assurance policy and risk management scheme enable decision makers to cope with the real-time assessment of mission assurance level. 相似文献

Climate change is affecting fishing communities across Bangladesh. While work has been undertaken to investigate the nature of these impacts, understanding how fishers perceive climate change at a local level, especially within developing countries, is crucial. This paper presents the results of a three-year study of the contextual determinants and dimensions of artisanal fishing community perceptions about climate change in coastal Bangladesh. Results of this study indicate that geographic characteristics, socio-economic status, worldviews, tradition, observations and disaster experiences are important determinants for shaping fishers’ perceptions about climate change. Fishers also demonstrate a long-standing tradition of risk adaptation strategies, but do not link them to climate change. We argue that these perceptions provide ideas for how to form appropriate climate responses at local levels not only in Bangladesh but other developing countries. 相似文献
