Surface and core sediment samples were collected from Lake Ayg?r, Turkey, to determine heavy metal distribution, probable sources and potential ecological and toxic risks for the lake. Heavy metals, total sulfur, total phosphate, total organic carbon, chlorophyll degradation products, and CaCO3 content were established. The enrichment factor, PLI, potential ecological risk index, and toxic risk index were calculated. Zn was determined to have the highest accumulation in surface sediment, followed by Cr, Pb, and Cd, respectively. Cd was the only element that exceeded the critical value of 40 and posed a moderate potential ecological risk. According to TRI, no ecotoxic risk was found. It is thought that local fossil fuel consumption is responsible for the accumulation of heavy metals since there is a lack of urbanization, industrialization, and agricultural activities around the lake. 相似文献

The distribution of dissolved rare earth elements (REE) in the Rhine River, Germany, shows the anthropogenic gadolinium (Gd) microcontamination that is commonly observed in rivers in densely populated countries with a highly evolved health care system. However, the Rhine River also carries anomalously high concentrations of lanthanum (La), which produce very large positive La anomalies in normalized REE distribution patterns. These positive La anomalies first occur north of the City of Worms and then decrease in size downstream, but are still significant approximately 400 km downstream, close to the German-Dutch border. The strong La enrichment is of anthropogenic origin and can be traced back to effluent from a production plant for fluid catalytic cracking catalysts at Rhine river-km 447.4. This effluent is characterized by extremely high dissolved total REE and La concentrations of up to 52 mg/kg and 49 mg/kg, respectively. Such La concentrations are well-above those at which ecotoxicological effects have been observed. The Rhine River is the first case observed to date, where a river's dissolved REE inventory is affected and even dominated by anthropogenic La. Our results suggest that almost 1.5t of anthropogenic dissolved La is exported via the Rhine River into the North Sea per year. This reveals that the growing industrial use of REE (and other formerly "exotic" elements) results in their increasing release into the environment, and highlights the urgent need to determine their geogenic background concentrations in terrestrial surface waters. 相似文献

Biofilm processes offer considerable advantages for biological treatment of chlorophenol containing wastewaters since such industrial effluents are difficult to treat by conventional activated sludge processes. A rotating perforated tubes biofilm reactor (RTBR) was developed and used for treatment of 2,4-dichlorophenol (DCP) containing synthetic wastewater. Effects of COD and DCP loading rates on COD, DCP and toxicity removals were investigated. Percent COD removal decreased and effluent COD increased with increasing COD and DCP loading rates due to toxic effects of high DCP content in the feed. DCP and toxicity removals showed similar trends. As the DCP loading rate increased the effluent DCP content increased yielding high toxicity levels in the effluent. COD and DCP loading rates should be below 90gCODm(-2)d(-1) and 2.8gDCPm(-2)d(-1) in order to obtain more than 90% DCP and toxicity removals. However, DCP loading rates lower than 1gDCPm(-2)d(-1) are required to obtain more than 90% COD removal. Empirical equations were developed to estimate percent COD, DCP and toxicity removals as functions of COD and DCP loading rates. The coefficients of the empirical equations were determined by using the experimental data. Empirical model predictions for percent COD, DCP and toxicity removals were in good agreement with the experimental data. 相似文献

Determination of heavy metals in lower Sakarya river sediments using a BCR-sequential extraction procedure 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

A BCR-sequential extraction procedure for the determination of extractable heavy metals was applied to sediments of various
rivers and lakes. There are many rivers basins in Turkey. Sakarya River Basin is one of the most important basins, which consists
of three parts: Upper, Middle and Lower Sakarya River Basins. In this study, the Lower Sakarya River was selected as the study
area for sediments. The samples were collected monthly from 10 pre-determined stations through the river for 10 months time
and analysed for the distribution of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn elements. The determination of extractable heavy
metals in sediments was carried out by using Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. The validation of the results was performed
by the analysis of a BCR 701 standard reference material. 相似文献

In this paper, the heavy metal levels (Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Mn, Fe, As, Cd, Cr, Hg), organic carbon, and chlorophyll degradation products were studied to prove their ecological effects in Lake Ç?ld?r, where fossil fuels are used as an energy source in the studied area for most of the year, and domestic waste from settlements is discharged directly into the lake. Sediment samples were collected from six sites on the northern shore of Ç?ld?r Lake, Turkey in November 2012. Enrichment (EF) and contamination factor (CF) values were determined, and Pollution Load (PLI) and Potential Ecological Risk (PER) indices were calculated. Average concentrations of heavy metals in the sediments were, in descending order, Fe?>?Mn?>?Zn?>?Ni?>?Cr?>?Cu?>?Pb?>?As?>?Cd?>?Hg, respectively. According to mean values, the source of these elements may be considered natural due to lack of enrichment in Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, and Cr in the sediment samples. Regarding enrichment of As, Cd, Mn, and Hg, the highest EF belongs to Hg. PLI and PER values indicate there are moderate ecological risk in the lake. 相似文献

Biological treatment of 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) containing wastewater in a hybrid bioreactor system with effluent recycle 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Due to the toxic effects of trichlorophenol (TCP) on microorganisms, biological treatment efficiencies of TCP containing wastewaters are usually low. Synthetic wastewater containing 2,4,6-TCP was biologically treated in a hybrid-loop bioreactor system consisting of a packed column biofilm and an aerated tank bioreactor with effluent recycle in order to improve COD and TCP removals. Effects of the feed TCP concentration on COD, TCP and toxicity removal performance of the system were investigated for the feed TCP between 50 and 450 mg L(-1) while the sludge age (solids retention time, SRT) and hydraulic residence time (HRT) were kept constant at 20 d and 25 h, respectively. Biomass concentrations in the packed column and in the aeration tank decreased with increasing feed TCP concentrations due to toxic effects of TCP on the organisms. Low biomass concentrations in the system at high feed TCP contents resulted in low COD, TCP and toxicity removals. Therefore, percent TCP, COD and toxicity removals decreased with increasing feed TCP concentrations especially above 400 mg L(-1). The effluent TCP concentrations were lower than 20 mg L(-1) for the feed TCP concentrations below 390 mg L(-1) resulting in TCP and COD removals above 90%. Specific rates of TCP and COD removals increased with the feed TCP due to low biomass concentrations at high TCP contents. The system should be operated at a feed TCP lower than 400 mg L(-1) in order to obtain more than 90% TCP, COD and toxicity removals under the specified experimental conditions. 相似文献
