Multiple pollutions by trace metals and pharmaceuticals have become one of the most important problems in marine coastal areas because of its excessive toxicity on organisms living in this area. This study aimed to assess the individual and mixture toxicity of Cu, Cd, and oxytetracycline frequently existing in the contaminated marine areas and the embryo-larval development of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus. The individual contamination of the spermatozoid for 1 h with the increasing concentrations of Cd, Cu, and OTC decreases the fertility rate and increases larvae anomalies in the order Cu > Cd > OTC. Moreover, the normal larva frequency and the length of spicules were more sensitive than the fertilization rate and normal gastrula frequency endpoints. The mixture toxicity assessed by multiple experimental designs showed clearly that concentrations of Cd, Cu, and OTC superior to 338 μg/L, 0.56 μg/L, and 0.83 mg/L, respectively, cause significant larva malformations.  相似文献

Different qualities of CMC were prepared from an agricultural residue (date palm rachis) and a marine waste (Posidonia oceanica). These starting lignocellulosic materials were used as such and after chemical pulping and bleaching. The carboxymethylation reaction was carried out in presence of NaOH (40%) and monochloroacetic acid (ClCH2COOH, MAC), in n-butanol as the reaction solvent. The substitution degrees (DS) of the obtained CMCs varied from 0.67 to 1.62 and between 0.98 and 1.86, for P. oceanica and date palm rachis, respectively. The CP-MAS 13C-NMR spectra of the prepared polyelectrolytes displayed the presence of the main peaks associated with cellulose macromolecules (C1–C6) and that corresponding to carboxyl functions at around 175 ppm. Unfortunately, the peak attributed to methylene groups neighbouring carboxyl moieties are overlapped by C2 and C3, which renders them hardly detectable. Nevertheless, it is worth noting that the CP-MAS 13C-NMR spectra revealed the presence of different signals originating from residual impurities (ca. 27 ppm), such as traces of lignin macromolecules (110–150 ppm) and methyl groups attributed to hemicelluloses. Work is in progress to establish a more efficient purification procedure, in order to have more accurate values of DS.  相似文献

Soil degradation and desertification processes in the Mediterranean basin reflect the interplay between environmental and socioeconomic drivers. An approach to evaluate comparatively the multiple relationships between biophysical variables and socioeconomic factors is illustrated in the present study using the data collected from 586 field sites located in five Mediterranean areas (Spain, Greece, Turkey, Tunisia and Morocco). A total of 47 variables were chosen to illustrate land-use, farm characteristics, population pressure, tourism development, rainfall regime, water availability, soil properties and vegetation cover, among others. A data mining approach incorporating non-parametric inference, principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering was developed to identify candidate syndromes of soil degradation and desertification risk. While field sites in the same study area showed a substantial similarity, the multivariate relationship among variables diverged among study areas. Data mining techniques proved to be a practical tool to identify spatial determinants of soil degradation and desertification risk. Our findings identify the contrasting spatial patterns for biophysical and socioeconomic variables, in turn associated with different responses to land degradation.  相似文献

The Hammam Lif shoreline, which is part of the Gulf of Tunis (North-East of Tunisia), suffered from a dramatic erosion event during a storm in 1981. Therefore, eight successive and detached breakwaters were built to protect it. The effect of these protection works on the evolution of this coastline is assessed using aerial photographs geo-referenced by digital photogrammetric methods. Results show that a general accretion has developed behind the detached breakwaters, with the formation of seven tombolos and one salient. The response of the coastline depends on the characteristics of the protective works (length, distance to coast, and spacing). Detached breakwaters which are short, far from the coastline and distant from each other, give rise to very small tombolos or salients. On the other hand, longer breakwaters which are near the coastline and closely spaced, give rise to more developed tombolos, showing that these structures are the most efficient.  相似文献

In this study, activated carbon was prepared from waste tire by KOH chemical activation. The pore properties including the BET surface area, pore volume, pore size distribution, and average pore diameter were characterized. BET surface area of the activated carbon was determined as 558 m2/g. The adsorption of uranium ions from the aqueous solution using this activated carbon has been investigated. Various physico-chemical parameters such as pH, initial metal ion concentration, and adsorbent dosage level and equilibrium contact time were studied by a batch method. The optimum pH for adsorption was found to be 3. The removal efficiency has also been determined for the adsorption system as a function of initial concentration. The experimental results were fitted to Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubinin–Radushkevich (D-R) isotherm models. A comparison of best-fitting was performed using the coefficient of correlation and the Langmuir isotherm was found to well represent the measured sorption data. According to the evaluation using the Langmuir equation, the saturated monolayer sorption capacity of uranium ions onto waste tire activated carbon was 158.73 mg/g. The thermodynamic equilibrium constant and the Gibbs free energy were determined and results indicated the spontaneous nature of the adsorption process. Kinetics data were best described by pseudo-second-order model.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to provide an update on the ongoing research of our laboratory in the field of polymeric materials derived from biomass components. The first section deals with the oxypropylation of different vegetable or animal biomass residues and the use of the ensuing polyols in different polyurethane formulations. Thus, foams, elastomers, and membranes were obtained and their properties compared favorably with those of equivalent materials prepared from petroleum-based sources. The second section is devoted to furan copolymers and their use in reversibly crosslinked elastomers via the Diels–Alder reaction and in the field of photosensitive materials. The third section describes novel approaches to the surface modification of cellulosic fibers to be employed in composite materials with polymeric matrices, consisting in the use of organometallics and siloxanes as coupling agents. The final two sections are devoted to a brief outline of the role of lignins and vegetable oils as additives in printing inks, varnishes, and paints.  相似文献
