Cumulative impact assessment in environmental planning: A coastal wetland watershed example

Several theoretical, analytical, and institutional difficulties have impeded the development and application of the assessment of cumulative environmental impacts. Watershed development on coastal wetlands offers an ideal context for evaluating the land disturbance target approach to cumulative impact assessment. A model land use planning system involving a time series approach was developed for Elkhorn Slough in California. The approach included four major components: evaluation of erosion susceptibility, measurement of land disturbance, establishment of a land disturbance target, and a comparison of existing and target land disturbance values. Further research is needed to test the transferability of the approach in a wide range of coastal watersheds and to verify the applicability of the methods to other cumulative impact problems.     

Prenatal diagnosis of medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency in a family with a previous fatal case of sudden unexpected death in childhood

Medium-chain acyl-CoA dehydrogenase (MCAD) deficiency is a potentially fatal inherited disease with a carrier frequency of approximately 1:100 in most Caucasian populations. The disease is implicated in sudden unexpected death in childhood. A prevalent disease-causing point mutation (A985G) in the MCAD gene has been characterized, thus rendering diagnosis easy in the majority of cases. Since the clinical spectrum of MCAD deficiency ranges from death in the first days of life to an asymptomatic life, there are probably other genetic factors—in addition to MCAD mutations—involved in the expression of the disease. Thus, families who have experienced the death of a child from MCAD deficiency might have an increased risk of a seriously affected subsequent child. In such a family we have therefore performed a prenatal diagnosis on a chorionic villus sample by a highly specific and sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the G985 mutation. The analysis was positive and resulted in abortion. We verified the diagnosis by direct analysis on blood spots and other tissue material from the aborted fetus and from family members.

湿法烟气脱硫是成熟且具有较好发展前景的工艺,其中关键是对脱硫塔的选择及通过各项参数的控制达到良好的脱硫效率.通过对脱硫塔酸碱度(PH)、气液比(L/G)、流场特性、结垢等各种性能进行分析研究,对脱硫塔的选择和实际运行具有一定的指导意义.     

重庆地区吴茱萸属药用植物资源的调查研究

经调查鉴定，重庆地区吴茱萸属药用植物有9种（含种下等级），首次发现吴茱萸红花品系。重点介绍了它们的生境分布、药材商品与生产经营现状等，并编制了分种检索表，为科研、教学、生产经营及开发利用提供了科学依据。     

活性炭负载Co3O4活化过一硫酸盐降解金橙G

通过浸渍煅烧法制备活性炭负载Co的活化剂(Co/AC),采用X射线衍射仪(XRD)、扫描电镜(SEM)及X射线能谱仪(EDS)技术对活化剂进行表征,发现Co主要以Co_3O_4的形式负载于活性炭表面,并利用Co/AC活化过一硫酸盐(PMS)产生硫酸根自由基(SO_4~-·)降解偶氮染料金橙G(OG),研究了活化反应机制及不同因素对OG降解的影响.结果表明,SO_4~-·在OG降解过程中起主要作用,并且随Co/AC用量、PMS浓度、温度的提高,OG降解效率明显增加.反应初始pH对降解OG有较大影响,当p H在4~8范围内,SO_4~-·均能有效降解OG,但在强酸碱条件下,则不利于OG降解.Cl~-对活化降解OG具有双重作用,低浓度时抑制降解,而在高浓度时促进降解.Co/AC在重复使用6次时仍具有较好活化性能.通过紫外可见光谱及气相色谱-质谱(GC/MS)对OG降解过程及中间产物进行了分析.     

G20峰会期间杭州地区空气质量特征及气象条件分析

利用空气质量和气象要素的监测资料与再分析资料,分析了2016年G20峰会期间(2016年8月10日—9月20日)杭州及周边地区空气质量演变及区域特征,探讨了气象条件对G20峰会期间杭州空气质量的影响.结果表明:G20峰会管控期间,由于机动车排放大幅度降低,杭州NO_2浓度较管控前有所下降,对比周边城市降幅居于首位;而由于不利气象条件的影响,PM_(2.5)、PM_(10)、SO_2、CO和O_3浓度比管控前有不同程度的增长,但增幅相比周边城市较小,说明管控措施对杭州空气质量有一定的改善效果.9月7日管控措施结束后污染反弹现象明显.气象条件对杭州的空气质量有重要影响:在管控前,杭州晴热高温天气有利于O3的生成,偏东风相对洁净,污染传输较少;在管控期,杭州虽受到静稳天气和外来污染传输的影响,但得益于减排应急管控措施的有效实施,NO_2浓度下降幅度最大,其他污染物的增幅也较周边城市偏小;在管控后,气象条件不利于污染物的垂直扩散,受静稳天气和污染源恢复常态的影响,PM_(2.5)、PM_(10)、NO_2、SO_2和CO出现了整个研究时段的最大值,而台风"莫兰蒂"使得杭州PM_(2.5)、PM_(10)和O_3浓度出现了整个研究时段的最低值.     

The macroeconomic determinants of volatility in precious metals markets

This paper models the monthly price volatilities of four precious metals (gold, silver, platinum and palladium prices) and investigates the macroeconomic determinants (business cycle, monetary environment and financial market sentiment) of these volatilities. Gold volatility is shown to be explained by monetary variables, but this is not true for silver. Overall, there is limited evidence that the same macroeconomic factors jointly influence the volatility processes of the four precious metal price series, although there is evidence of volatility feedback between the precious metals. These results are consistent with the view that precious metals are too distinct to be considered a single asset class, or represented by a single index. This finding is of importance for portfolio managers and investors.     

The crude oil market and the gold market: Evidence for cointegration,causality and price discovery

Given that the gold market and the crude oil market are the main representatives of the large commodity markets, it is of crucial practical significance to analyze their cointegration relationship and causality, and investigate their respective contribution, from the perspective of price discovery, to the common price trend so as to interpret the dynamics of the whole large commodity market and forecast the fluctuation of crude oil and gold prices.
