AN INVESTIGATION, MONITORING AND ANALYSIS OF MUNICIPAL SOLID-STATE GARBAGE-DISPOSAL FACILITIES IN GUANGZHOU

The present article deals with an investigation and analysis of municipal solid waste (MSW) disposal facilities in Guangzhou city in hope to give an assessment of the actual situations of their operations. At present, the pollutants discharged by the facilities were monitored in many ways. As a result of our investigation, it is found that treatment facilities are various in their characteristics. In general, landfill remains still one of the chief ways to dispose large amounts of MSW in Guangzhou, which seems problematic due to the extravagant use of land. Therefore the author suggests that the construction of landfill sites should be standardized and the management of landfill sites be improved with the stress on pollution control. In addition, the development of MSW incineration technology is also proposed for Guangzhou is more suitable for adopting incineration, which is more advantageous over landfill in the use of land.
