Poly (lactic acid) (PLA) and poly (butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) blend nanocomposites were prepared using melt blending technique followed by compression moulding. The blend nanocomposites were prepared with a variation of PBAT loading along with maleic anhydride and benzoyl peroxide ranging from 5 to 20 wt% along with two different commercially available nanoclays cloisite 93A and cloisite 30B (C30B) at 3 wt% loading. The maleic anhydride and benzoyl peroxide were used during the melt blending of the blend nanocomposites as a compatibilizer and as an accelerator respectively. Maleic anhydride used to enhance the compatibility of the PLA/PBAT blend and as well as the uniform adhesion of the nanoclays with them. The properties and characterizations of PLA matrix and the PLA/PBAT blend nanocomposites have been studied. The tensile strength, % elongation and impact strength increased with the preparation of PLA/PBAT blend nanocomposites as compared with PLA matrix. PLA/PBAT/C30B blend nanocomposites exhibited optimum tensile strength at 15 wt% of PBAT loading. Differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis also showed improved thermal properties as compared with virgin PLA. The wide angle X-ray diffraction studies indicated an increase in d-spacing in PLA/PBAT/C30B blend nanocomposite thus revealing intercalated morphology.  相似文献

The biodegradability of polylactide (PLA) and gelatinized starches (GS) blend films in the presence of compatibilizer was investigated under controlled soil burial conditions. Various contents (0–40 wt%) of corn and tapioca starches were added as fillers; whereas, different amounts of methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) (0–2.5 wt%) and 10 wt% based on PLA content of polyethylene glycol 400 (PEG400) were used as a compatibilizer and a plasticizer, respectively. The biodegradation process was followed by measuring changes in the physical appearance, weight loss, morphological studies, and tensile properties of the blend films. The results showed that the presence of small amount of MDI significantly increased the tensile properties of the blends compared with the uncompatibilized blends. This is attributed to an improvement of the interfacial interaction between PLA and GS phases, as evidenced by the morphological results. For soil burial testing, PLA/GS films with lower levels (1.25 wt%) of MDI had less degradation; in contrast, at high level of MDI, their changes of physical appearance and weight loss tended to increase. These effects are in agreement with their water absorption results. Furthermore, biodegradation rates of the films were enhanced with increasing starch contents, while mechanical performances were decreased.  相似文献

In this work, morphology, rheological and tensile properties of low-density polyethylene/linear low-density polyethylene/thermoplastic oxidized starch (LDPE/LLDPE/TPOS) blends are studied. The blends of LDPE/LLDPE (70/30, w/w) containing 0–20 wt% TPOS in the presence of 3 wt% of PE-grafted maleic anhydride (PE-g-MA) as a compatibilizer are prepared by a twin screw extruder and then converted to appropriate thin films using an extrusion film blowing machine. Scanning electron microscopic images show that there is a relative good dispersion of oxidized starch particles in PE matrices. However, as TPOS content in the blends increases, the starch particle size increases too. The rheological analyses indicate that TPOS can decrease the elasticity and viscosity of the blends. The LDPE/LLDPE/TPOS blends show power-law behavior and as the TPOS content increases the power-law exponent (n) and consistency index (K) decrease. The ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break of the final blend films reduce, when TPOS content increases from 5 to 20 wt%. However, the required mechanical properties for packaging applications are achieved when 10 wt% oxidized starch is added, according to ASTM D4635.  相似文献

Blending of polylactide (PLA) with low stereoregularity and polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane grafted with arms of poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether, acting as a plasticizer, allowed us previously to obtain a novel stable elastomeric-like material. The present contribution focuses on the properties of semi-crystalline PLA plasticized with this compound. Melt blends of PLA with 5–15 wt% of the plasticizer, were compression molded, quenched and annealed, which enabled cold-crystallization. The glass transition temperature of the blends and their drawability depended on their crystallinity and plasticizer content. The best ductility was reached at the plasticizer content of 15 wt%; the achieved strain at break was 6.5 (650%) and 1.3 (130%), for the quenched and annealed material, respectively. The latter value exceeded 20 times the strain at break of neat crystalline PLA. The tensile toughness of the annealed 15 wt% blend was 12 times larger than that of crystalline PLA. Moreover, annealing of 15 wt% blend improved its yield strength by 40%. Despite the two peaks of the loss modulus, indicating the two glass transitions in this blend, no heterogeneities were found by scanning electron microscopy, indicating that the plasticizer enriched phase formed instead of distinct inclusions of the plasticizer.  相似文献

In attempt to enhance the compatibility of NR in PLA matrix, and furthermore to enhance mechanical properties of PLA, PLA/NR blends with strong interaction were prepared in Haake internal mixer, using dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as cross-linker. The effects of dicumyl peroxide on morphology, thermal properties, mechanical properties and rheological properties of PLA and PLA/NR blends were studied. The results indicated that dicumyl peroxide could increase the compatibility of poly(lactic acid) and natural rubber. With small amount of dicumyl peroxide, the effect on NR toughening PLA was enhanced and the tensile toughness of PLA/NR blends was improved. When the DCP content was up to 0.2 wt%, the PLA/NR blend reached the maximum elongation at break (26.21 %) which was 2.5 times of that of neat PLA (the elongation at break of neat PLA was 10.7 %). Meanwhile, with introducing 2 wt% DCP into PLA/NR blend, the maximum Charpy impact strength (7.36 kJ/m2) could be achieved which was 1.8 times of that of neat PLA (4.18 kJ/m2). Moreover, adding adequate amount of DCP could improve the processing properties of blends: the viscosity of PLA/NR blend decreased significantly and the lowest viscosity of the blends could be achieved when the DCP content was 0.5 wt%.  相似文献

The blends of polylactide (PLA) and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with different contents (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 wt%) and molecular weights (\( \overline{M}_{w} \) 6000, 10,000 and 20,000, called respectively as PEG 6000, PEG 10,000, and PEG 20,000) were prepared by means of melt blending method. The effects of tensile speed, content and molecular weight of the PEG on the tensile properties of the PLA/PEG blends were investigated using a universal testing machine at 24 °C. With increasing tensile speed, the tensile modulus, strength and stress at break of the PLA/PEG blends marginally increased, while the tensile modulus and stress at break declined non-linearly, and the tensile strength dropped nearly linearly with increasing PEG 10,000 content. When the PEG 10,000 content was 5–15 wt%, the tensile strain at break of the PLA/PEG 10,000 blend markedly increased, and then decreased as the PEG 10,000 content exceeded 15 wt%. With increasing the molecular weight of PEG, tensile modulus and strength increased, whereas the tensile strain at break decreased. This showed that the application of right amount of lower molecular weight PEG was more conducive to improving the tensile toughness of the PLA/PEG blends, which was attributed to its better miscibility with PLA and increased mobility of PLA molecular chains.  相似文献

The objective of this work is to study the feasibility of reinforcing polymer composites by utilizing the biofibers from the agricultural residue of Moringa oleifera pod husks (MOPH). The chemical and physical properties of the fibers were comprehensively investigated to evaluate their potential as a filler in gelatin-based films. The effect of MOPH fiber concentrations of 0, 5, 10, and 15 wt% on the water vapor permeability (WVP), and mechanical and thermal properties of the gelatin-based films was studied. By incorporation of 10 wt% of the MOPH fibers in gelatin, the highest tensile strength and Young’s modulus, and the lowest WVP properties were obtained. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) photographs indicated good interfacial adhesion between the fibers and the gelatin matrix. TGA of the biocomposites revealed an improvement of thermal stability. Moreover, under accelerated weathering, the gelatin-MOPH-10% biocomposite degraded more slowly than the gelatin control. These results indicate that the MOPH fibers are a good reinforcing filler and may be useful for biocomposite applications.  相似文献

Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a biodegradable polymer that exhibits high elastic modulus, high mechanical strength, and feasible processability. However, high cost and fragility hinder the application of PLA in food packaging. Therefore, this study aimed to develop flexible PLA/acetate and PLA/chitosan films with improved thermal and mechanical properties without the addition of a plasticizer and additive to yield extruder compositions with melt temperatures above those of acetate and chitosan. PLA blends with 10, 20, and 30 wt% of chitosan or cellulose acetate were processed in a twin-screw extruder, and grain pellets were then pressed to form films. PLA/acetate films showed an increase of 30 °C in initial degradation temperature and an increase of 3.9 % in elongation at break. On the other hand, PLA/chitosan films showed improvements in mechanical properties as an increase of 4.7 % in elongation at break. PLA/chitosan film which presented the greatest increase in elongation at break proved to be the best candidate for application in packaging.  相似文献

Natural rubber grafted with poly(vinyl acetate) copolymer (NR-g-PVAc) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization. Three graft copolymers were prepared with different PVAc contents: 1 % (G1), 5 % (G5) and 12 % (G12). Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) was melt blended with natural rubber (NR) and/or NR-g-PVAc in a twin screw extruder. The blends contained 10–20 wt% rubber. The notched Izod impact strength and tensile properties were determined from the compression molded specimens. The effect of NR mastication on the mechanical properties of the PLA/NR/NR-g-PVAc blend was evaluated. Characterization by DMTA and DSC showed an enhancement in miscibility of the PLA/NR-g-PVAc blend. The temperature of the maximum tan δ of the PLA decreased with increasing PVAc content in the graft copolymer, i.e., from 71 °C (pure PLA) to 63 °C (the blend containing 10 % G12). The increase in miscibility brought about a reduction in the rubber particle diameter. These changes were attributed to the enhancement of toughness and ductility of PLA after blending with NR-g-PVAc. Therefore, NR-g-PVAc could be used as a toughening agent of PLA and as a compatibilizer of the PLA/NR blend. NR mastication was an efficient method for increasing the toughness and ductility of the blends which depended on the blend composition and the number of mastications.  相似文献

Two bio-based polymers, cellulose diacetate (CDA) and starch, were used to prepare blends with reasonable properties and low cost. Due to the poor processing properties, starch was modified in the presence of glycerol and epoxidized soybean oil (ESO), and CDA was plasticized by triacetin (TA) and ESO, respectively. The morphologies of the blends with different amounts of modified starch (MST) were studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and the physical properties of the blends, including thermal stability, mechanical property, water and moisture resistance, were investigated. The equilibrium moisture absorption rates of the blends containing 30 and 50 wt% MST at 100 % of relative humidity(RH) were 9.4 and 15.0 %, respectively. SEM and DMA results demonstrated that CDA and MST had a certain extent of compatibility. Due to the partial plasticization of starch, the tensile strength of the blends was nearly not affected by the amount of MST. Even if 50 wt% MST was added, the tensile strength of the blend was as high as 24.7 MPa. The obtained blend containing 30 wt% MST can keep good mechanical properties at 50 % RH, and its tensile strength and elongation at break are 30.2 MPa and 3.6 %, respectively. All the results show that the CDA/MST blends have a potential as an environmental friendly material.  相似文献

In this study, the hydrolytic degradation of Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and acetylated PLA (PLA-Ac)–clay nanocomposites were investigated. The organo clay was obtained by ion exchange reaction using cetyl tri methyl ammonium bromide (CTAB). Nanocomposites containing 2, 5 and 8% mass ratio of organo clay (CTAB-O) were prepared. PLA and its organo clay nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine the morphology before and after hydrolytic degradation. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses of PLA and PLA-Ac were also obtained. The hydrolytic degradation of polymers and their composites were investigated in the phosphate buffered saline solution (PBS). The results showed that controlled hydrolytic degradation was observed in the samples with end group modification of PLA. While weight loss of PLA films was 28%, that of PLA-Ac films was 18% after 60 days degradation time. The weight loss was obtained as 29.5 and 25.5% for PLA-5 wt% organo clay (PLA/5CTAB-O) and PLA-Ac-5 wt% organo clay (PLA-Ac/5CTAB-O) nanocomposites films, respectively. It was also observed that thermal degradation of PLA-Ac was much more than that of PLA. Hydrolytic degradation increased depending on organo clay content. The end group modificated PLA results in controlled hydrolytic degradation. While hydrolytic degradation in polymer films occurred as surface erosion, bulk erosion was observed in composite films.  相似文献

Poly(lactide)-graft-glycidyl methacrylate (PLA-g-GMA) copolymer was prepared by grafting GMA onto PLA in a batch mixer using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The graft content was determined with the 1H-NMR spectroscopy by calculating the relative area of the characteristic peaks of PLA and GMA. The result shows that the graft content increases from 1.8 to 11.0 wt% as the GMA concentration in the feed varies from 5 to 20 wt%. The PLA/starch blends were prepared by the PLA-g-GMA copolymer as a compatibilizer, and the structure and properties of PLA/starch blends with or without the PLA-g-GMA copolymer were characterized by SEM, DSC, tensile test and medium resistance test. The result shows that the PLA/starch blends without the PLA-g-GMA copolymer show a poor interfacial adhesion and the starch granules are clearly observed, nevertheless the starch granules are better dispersed and covered by PLA when the PLA-g-GMA copolymer as a compatibilizer. The mechanical properties of the PLA/starch blends with the PLA-g-GMA copolymer are obviously improved, such as tensile strength at break increasing from 18.6 ± 3.8 MPa to 29.3 ± 5.8 MPa, tensile modulus from 510 ± 62 MPa to 901 ± 62 MPa and elongation at break from 1.8 ± 0.4 % to 3.4 ± 0.6 %, respectively, for without the PLA-g-GMA copolymer. In addition, the medium resistance of PLA/starch blends with the PLA-g-GMA copolymer was much better than PLA/starch blends.  相似文献

Cellulose gel films were prepared by regeneration process using pre-cooled aq.(8 wt% LiOH + 15 wt% urea) mixture as solvent and ethyl alcohol as non solvent. The Terminus cattapa leaf extract diffused wet cellulose films were then dipped in 1–5 mM aq.AgNO3 solutions to allow in situ generation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Besides the in situ generation, some AgNPs were also formed outside the wet films in the solution. The AgNPs formed outside the films were observed under transmission electron microscope and scanning electron microscope. The nanocomposite films were also characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis and tensile test. The thermal stability of the composite films was lower than that of the matrix up to a temperature of ~300 °C and afterwards showed a reverse trend. The tensile strength of the nanocomposite films was found to be higher than the matrix but decreased with increasing concentration of aq.AgNO3. The cellulose/AgNPs composite films showed good antibacterial activity against E. coli (gram positive) and Bacillus sp. (gram negative). Based on the aforementioned properties, the cellulose/AgNPs composite films can be considered for antibacterial packaging and medical applications.  相似文献

Polylactide (PLA) composites with 10–30 wt% of commercial fine grain filler of native cellulose were prepared by melt-mixing, and examined. The composite films had esthetic appearance, glossy surface, creamy color and density close to that of neat PLA. Good dispersion of the filler in PLA matrix was achieved. The composites were stiffer than neat PLA; in the glassy region the storage modulus increased by approx. 30 %. The tensile strength of the composite materials in the temperature range from 25 to 45 °C was similar to that of neat PLA. No marked decrease in molar mass of PLA in the composites occurred during processing in comparison to neat PLA. Moreover, thermogravimetry experiments demonstrated good thermal stability of the composites; 5 % weight loss occurred well above 300 °C.  相似文献

The use of fully bio-based and biodegradable materials for massive applications, such as food packaging, is an emerging tendency in polymer research. But the formulations proposed in this way should preserve or even increase the functional properties of conventional polymers, such as transparency, homogeneity, mechanical properties and low migration of their components to foodstuff. This is not always trivial, in particular when brittle biopolymers, such as poly(lactic acid) (PLA), are considered. In this work the formulation of innovative materials based on PLA modified with highly compatible plasticizers, i.e. oligomers of lactic acid (OLAs) is proposed. Three different synthesis conditions for OLAs were tested and the resulting additives were further blended with commercial PLA obtaining transparent and ductile materials, able for films manufacturing. These materials were tested in their structural, thermal and tensile properties and the best formulation among the three materials was selected. OLA with molar mass (Mn) around 1,000 Da is proposed as an innovative and fully compatible and biodegradable plasticizer for PLA, able to replace conventional plasticizers (phthalates, adipates or citrates) currently used for films manufacturing in food packaging applications.  相似文献

The aim of the current work was to produce sodium alginate (SA) maltodextrins (MD) based functional films incorporated with phenolic extract of Azolla pinnata leaves fern (AF) by solution molding technique. AF with different concentrations (0.8, 1.2 and 1.6% w/w) were integrated inside SA.MD films. The resulted films were characterized to investigate the surface structure by scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermal disposal by (DSC), crystallization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), potential interaction by (FT-IR) and some mechanical properties. The SEM micrographs indicated that the higher concentration (1.6%) of AF extract caused development of wrinkles on the surface of films. And as a result, there were a significant decrease of elongation at break (EB) and tensile strength properties of films to 55.01 and 58.42%, respectively. By continues addition of AF extract to SA.MD films, the film thickness increased from 0.124 to 0.181 mm, the scavenging and antimicrobial properties were enhanced by the attendance of ferulic acid, rutin, thiamine, tamarixetin, astragalin, quercetin, chlorogenic acid and epicatechin inside extracts. Furthermore, the films solubility, swelling degree and water vapor permeability were decreased to 13.08%, 26.41% and 1.662?×?10??10 g H2O/m s p.a. The resulted films could be utilized as composite packaging material for different food applications.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyhexanoate) (PHBHHx) is a versatile, biobased and biodegradable copolymer from the family of polyhydroxyalkanoates. This study aims to further ameliorate its properties in order to enhance its applicability for food packaging purposes through preparation of organomodified montmorillonite clay (OMMT) nanocomposites. Nanocomposites based on pure PHBHHx as well as commercial PHBHHx granulate, after a previous dry-mixing with OMMT in concentrations of 1, 3, 5 and 10 wt%, were prepared using melt blending and compression molding. Investigation of the samples showed well dispersed nanofiller and highly intercalated nanocomposites, resulting in a continuous decrease in gas permeability, lowering O2, CO2 and water vapor permeability with about 5–7 % and approximately 40 % at OMMT concentration of 1 and 10 wt%, respectively. Besides gas permeability, other properties were affected as well. Thermal stability of the samples increased gradually up to 5 wt% nanofiller, but was reduced at 10 wt%. In order to investigate the effects of OMMT and molecular weights on PHBHHx crystallization, nanocomposites were also produced by solvent-casting and compared to those obtained by melt-blending. Crystallization was retarded, because of severe lowering of molecular weight due to processing-induced chain scission, catalyzed by OMMT moisture. However, this reduction was counteracted for a large part by using commercial PHBHHx granulate, which has shown better crystallization properties. The samples were rendered increasingly more brittle, displaying higher Young’s modulus and severely reduced elongation at break. From this study it appeared that, upon viewing all affected properties as a whole, the sample based on commercial PHBHHx and containing 3 wt% OMMT shows most promise for possible applications, however further research must be performed in order to exploit their fullest potential.  相似文献

This study aimed to develop and characterize biodegradable films containing mucilage, chitosan and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in different concentrations. The films were prepared by casting on glass plates using glycerol as plasticizer. Mechanical properties, water vapor and oxygen barrier, as well as the interaction with water, were measured. The compatibility of the film-forming components and the uniformity of the films were determined by zeta potential and SEM, respectively. The glycerol and mucilage allowed obtaining more hydrophilic films. The barrier properties of the films made from 100 % chitosan were similar to composed films containing PVA up to 40 %. The results of this study suggest that the interaction between chitosan and mucilage could increase water vapor permeability. The films prepared from either 100 % chitosan or PVA showed a more hydrophobic behavior as compared to the composed films. The films were homogenous since no boundary or separation of components was observed, indicating a good compatibility of the components in the films.  相似文献

Composites consisting of 30 vol% PLA and 70 vol% cellulose fibres were prepared with compression moulding. In the first part of the study, the recyclability of this composite material was investigated by grinding the material and using the recyclate obtained as a filler for PLA. Thus, the recyclate was compounded with PLA in loadings ranging from 20 to 50 wt%. The composites obtained were characterised by tensile tests, Charpy impact tests, DMTA, and SEM. Tests showed that the recyclate had a relatively good reinforcing effect. Stress at break increased from about 50 to 77 MPa and the modulus increased from 3.6 to 8.5 GPa. In the second part of the study, the ability to mechanically recycle the composites obtained was evaluated by repeated processing. Composite with two loadings of the recyclate (20 wt% and 50 %) was injection moulded repeatedly, six times. Tests showed that the composite material with 20 wt% recyclate could withstand six cycles relatively well, while the composite with the higher load degraded much more quickly. For the composites with 50 wt% recyclate, signs of polymer degradation could be seen already after reprocessing the composite once.  相似文献

The addition of plasticizers to biopolymer films is a good method for improving their physicochemical properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chitosan (CHI) blended with two hydrophilic plasticizers glycerol (GLY) and sorbitol (SOR), at two concentrations (20 and 40 wt%) on their mechanical, thermal, barrier, structural, morphological and antimicrobial properties. The chitosan was prepared through the alkaline deacetylation of chitin obtained from fermented lactic from shrimp heads. The obtained chitosan had a degree of deacetylation (DA) of 84 ± 2.7 and a molecular weight of 136 kDa, which indicated that a good film had formed. The films composed of CHI and GLY (20 wt%) exhibited the best mechanical properties compared to the neat chitosan film. The percentage of elongation at break increase to over 700 % in the films that contained 40 % GLY, and these films also exhibited the highest values for the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) of 79.6 ± 1.9 g m2 h?1 and a yellow color (b o  = 17.9 ± 2.0) compared to the neat chitosan films (b o  = 8.8 ± 0.8). For the structural properties, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction analyses revealed an interaction in the acetamide group and changes in the crystallinity of plasticized films. The scanning electron micrographs revealed that all formulations of the chitosan films were smooth, and that they did not contain aggregations, pores or microphase separation. The thermal analysis using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) revealed a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 130 °C for neat chitosan film, but the addition of SOR or GLY elicited a decrease in the temperature of the peak (120 °C). In addition, the antimicrobial activity of the chitosan films was evaluated against Listeria monocytogenes, and reached a reduction of 2 log after 24 h. The plasticizer concentration of 20 % GLY is sufficient for obtaining flexible chitosan films with good mechanical properties, and it could serve as an alternative as a packaging material to reduce environmental problems associated with synthetic packaging films.  相似文献
