The Coordinating Research Council (CRC) held its tenth workshop in March 2000, focusing on results from the most recent real-world vehicle emissions research. In this paper, we summarize the presentations from researchers who are engaged in improving our understanding of the contribution of mobile sources to emission inventories. In this paper, we summarize the presentations from researchers who are engaged in improving our understanding of the contribution of mobile sources to emission inventories. 提出一种新型除雾装置——自由旋片除雾器。在实验室条件下,从除雾效率、压力损失两方面研究了自由旋片除雾器的性能。实验结果表明,风速在11 m/s左右时,自由旋片除雾器的除雾效率达到最大值。对比实验发现,自由旋片除雾器的除雾效率远高于固定叶片除雾器的除雾效率,二者的除雾效率最大值相差约10%。自由旋片除雾器的除雾效率变化曲线在6~13 m/s的流速范围内相当平滑,说明自由旋片除雾器对含雾气流流速的波动有很好的适应性。另外,增加液气比和雾滴粒径会提高自由旋片除雾器的除雾效率。自由旋片除雾器压力损失系数仅为4.3,而固定叶片除雾器压力损失系数为6.6。所以,自由旋片除雾器的阻力特性远优于固定叶片除雾器。  相似文献

The Atmospheric Nitrogen Compounds II: Emissions, Transport, Transformation, Deposition and Assessment workshop was held in Chapel Hill, NC from 7 to 9 June 1999. This international conference, which served as a follow-up to the workshop held in March 1997, was sponsored by: North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources; North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, North Carolina Office of the State Health Director; Mid-Atlantic Regional Air Management Association; North Carolina Water Resources Research Institute; Air and Waste Management Association, RTP Chapter; the US Environmental Protection Agency and the North Carolina State University (College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and North Carolina Agricultural Research Service). The workshop was structured as an open forum at which scientists, policy makers, industry representatives and others could freely share current knowledge and ideas, and included international perspectives. The workshop commenced with international perspectives from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Denmark. This article summarizes the findings of the workshop and articulates future research needs and ways to address nitrogen/ammonia from intensively managed animal agriculture. The need for developing sustainable solutions for managing the animal waste problem is vital for shaping the future of North Carolina. As part of that process, all aspects of environmental issues (air, water, soil) must be addressed as part of a comprehensive and long-term strategy. There is an urgent need for North Carolina policy makers to create a new, independent organization that will build consensus and mobilize resources to find technologically and economically feasible solutions to this aspect of the animal waste problem.  相似文献

Under contract to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Research Triangle Institute has been conducting research to improve the precision, accuracy and limit of detection attainable with the EPA Method 25 nonmethane organic (NMO) analyzer. In Method 25, volatile organic carbon (VOC) samples are collected by drawing gas from an emitting source through a dry ice cooled sample trap and into an evacuated collection tank. The hydrocarbon concentration emitted from the source is determined on a per-carbon basis by catalytically converting the trap and tank sample fractions to CO2 and quantitating the amount of CO2 produced using the NMO analyzer. A reduction catalyst evaluation led to the selection of an NMO analyzer reduction catalyst which operates at a moderate temperature and displays no appreciable effect on peak shape. A gas chromatographlc column system which provides better permanent gas separation and hydrocarbon quantitation was also selected for use in the NMO analyzer.  相似文献

在实验室条件下考察了自制高效铁系除臭剂的吸附性能,确定出了最佳工艺条件。将该除臭剂应用于制药厂污水处理污泥带滤间的恶臭气体净化,设计了废气处理量为11 000 m3/h的吸附净化系统。工程实际运行效果良好,H2S去除率可达97%以上。结果表明:该除臭剂对于处理含硫恶臭气体具有良好的实际应用价值,工业应用前景广阔。  相似文献

本文综合了环境中金属有机化合物形态分析方法的近期进展。在分离方面,高效液相色谱法(HPLC)的应用逐渐增加;等离子体激发的原子发射光谱作为检测器其应用也不断增长;HPLC与炉式原子吸收在接口上的困难已经解决;新的衍生技术已用于非挥发性物质的衍生以便于气相色谱分离;序列分析系统如GC/HPLC—AAS、GC/HPLC—AED、GC/HPLC—MS等的应用逐渐增多,所有这些联用系统都是相当灵敏的,而且很特效。  相似文献

In April 1999, the Coordinating Research Council sponsored a workshop focusing on our understanding of real-world emissions from motor vehicles. This summary presents the latest information on in-use light- and heavy-duty vehicle tailpipe and evaporative emissions, the effects of fuels on emissions, field programs designed to understand the contribution of mobile sources to emission inventories, efforts to evaluate and improve mobile source emission models, progress of vehicle inspection/maintenance programs, and topics for future research. While significant progress has been made in understanding in-use vehicle emissions, further improvements are necessary. Moreover, the impact of current and future changes in emission control technologies and control programs will have to be monitored for effectiveness and incorporated into the emission factor models.  相似文献

Various hazardous substances contained in waste TV sets might be released into environment via dust during recycling activities. Two brominated flame retardants (BFRs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA), and five kinds of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Cd, Cr, and Ni) were detected in indoor dust collected from two workshops (TV dismantling workshop and subsequent recycling workshop). PBDEs concentrations in dust from waste wires recycling line (722,000 ng/g) were the highest among the studied sites, followed by those in manual dismantling–sorting line (117,000 ng/g), whereas TBBPA concentrations were the highest in manual dismantling–sorting line (557 ng/g) and printed circuit board (PCB) recycling line (428 ng/g). For heavy metals, Cu and Pb were the most enriched metals in all dust samples. The highest concentration of Pb (22,900 mg/kg) was found in TV dismantling workshop-floor dust. Meanwhile, Cu was the predominant metal in dust from the PCB recycling line, especially in dust collected from electrostatic separation area (42,700 mg/kg). Occupational exposure assessment results showed that workers were the most exposed to BDE-209 among the four PBDE congeners (BDE-47, BDE-99, BDE-153, and BDE-209) in both workshops. The hazard quotient (HQ) indicated that noncancerous effects were unlikely for both BFRs and heavy metals (HQ?<?1), and carcinogenic risks for Cd, Cr, and Ni (risk?<?10?6) on workers in two workshops were relatively low.  相似文献

A workshop on solid waste facility siting was sponsored by the University of Tennessee's Waste Management Research and Education Institute on June 11, 1993, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Eighteen experts from around the country gathered at the workshop to engage in frank discussions of the current status of structured approaches to facility siting. Attendees represented federal and state government, academia, consulting firms, and private waste industry. The goals of the workshop were to: (1) identify trends in state approaches to solid waste disposal; (2) describe a few “model“ state frameworks for solid waste facility siting; and (3) assess what sort of local forum can most effectively respond to solid waste siting issues. This synthesis of topics discussed at the workshop reflects the views of the authors and not necessarily the group as a whole.  相似文献

This article is a summary report on a workshop, Measurement Technology and Characterization of Primary Sulfur Oxides Emission from Combustion Sources, sponsored by the EPA Environmental Sciences Research Laboratory at Research Triangle Park, NC, held in Southern Pines, NC. The objectives of the workshop were: to review and discuss current measurement methods and problem areas for sulfur oxides emission with attention focused on sulfuric acid, sulfates, and sulfur-bearing particulate matter; to review and discuss emission data from various combustion sources operating under different conditions, which include various pollutant controls, fuel composition, excess boiler oxygen, etc.; to delineate and recommend areas in need of research and development effort. Scientists were invited to present the results of their studies on primary sulfate emissions. The 3-day workshop devoted one day to measurement technology, a second to characterization, and a third to critical assessment of the presented papers and development of summary working group reports on each half-day session of the initial 2 days. Thirty-one papers were presented by 29 participants on measurements and characterization. Four working group reports were developed and summarized in the last day. Highlights of the papers and reports are briefly reviewed. Workshop proceedings are available as an EPA publication.  相似文献

This summary presents the latest information on in-use light- and heavy-duty vehicle tailpipe and evaporative emissions, the effects of fuels on emissions, field programs designed to understand the contribution of mobile sources to emission inventories, efforts to evaluate and improve mobile source emission models, progress of vehicle inspection/ maintenance programs, and topics for future research. While significant progress has been made in understanding in-use vehicle emissions, further improvements are necessary.
