The high number of failures is one reason why translocation is often not recommended. Considering how behavior changes during translocations may improve translocation success. To derive decision‐tree models for species’ translocation, we used data on the short‐term responses of an endangered Australian skink in 5 simulated translocations with different release conditions. We used 4 different decision‐tree algorithms (decision tree, decision‐tree parallel, decision stump, and random forest) with 4 different criteria (gain ratio, information gain, gini index, and accuracy) to investigate how environmental and behavioral parameters may affect the success of a translocation. We assumed behavioral changes that increased dispersal away from a release site would reduce translocation success. The trees became more complex when we included all behavioral parameters as attributes, but these trees yielded more detailed information about why and how dispersal occurred. According to these complex trees, there were positive associations between some behavioral parameters, such as fight and dispersal, that showed there was a higher chance, for example, of dispersal among lizards that fought than among those that did not fight. Decision trees based on parameters related to release conditions were easier to understand and could be used by managers to make translocation decisions under different circumstances. Data reconciliation and mass balance analysis were conducted for the first time to improve the data obtained from a petrochemical wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), and the results were applied to evaluate the performance of the plant. Daily average values for 209 days from the inlet and outlet of the plant obtained from WWTP documentation center along with the results of four sampling runs in this work were used for data reconciliation and performance evaluation of the plant. Results showed that standard deviation and relative errors in the balanced data of each measurement decreased, especially for the process wastewater from 24.5 to 8.6 % for flow and 24.5 to 1.5 % for chemical oxygen demand (COD). The errors of measured data were −137 m3/day (−4.41 %) and 281 kg/day (7.92 %) for flow and COD, respectively. According to the balanced data, the removal rates of COD and 5-day biological oxygen demand (BOD5) through the aeration unit were equal to 37 and 46 %, respectively. In addition, the COD and BOD5 concentrations were reduced by about 61.9 % (2137 kg/day) and 78.1 % (1976 kg/day), respectively, prior to the biological process. At the same time, the removal rates of benzene, toluene, and styrene were 56, 38, and 69 %, respectively. The results revealed that about 40 % of influent benzene (75.5 kg/day) is emitted to the ambient air at the overhead of the equalization basin. It can be concluded that the volatilization of organic compounds is the basic mechanism for the removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and it corresponds to the main part of total COD removal from the WWTP.

This study reports a very selective, easy, and precise method for rapid separation of trace amounts of copper in aqueous samples using octadecyl silica-bonded phase membrane disks modified by 2,2'-[ethane-1,2-diylbis(thio)]dianiline (EDTD) combined with flame atomic absorption spectrometric determination. In addition, the synthesis and spectral characterization of EDTD have been described in detail. All the affecting experimental variables such as pH, amount of modifier, eluent type, sample and eluent flow rate, interfering ions, and disk capacity were also investigated. The target analyte (trace copper) was quantitatively retained at pH?=?4 and eluted with 6.0 mL of 0.5 M HNO3 at flow rates of 40 and 10 mL min?1 for analyte passage and elution steps, respectively, through the disks modified with 17.0 mg of EDTD. The proposed method also allows an enrichment factor of about 500 and has a detection limit of 0.005 ng mL?1. The method has been successfully applied for isolation and determination of copper in different water samples, peppers, and standard alloys.  相似文献

An ergonomics and safety model to assess and evaluate the most critical industrial improvement areas in a developing nation. This study was initiated and supported by a Fortune 500 Corporation interested in improving its global operations in developing nations. This initiative was also fully supported by an emerging nation that was concerned with its ergonomics and safety problems. The model was tested and validated in the emerging nation and the results were used to further enhance the model so that it can be implemented and adapted to other similar work environments. The model provides a practical methodology that analyzes and evaluates an emerging nation’s current work environments, suggests practical solutions, and recommends effective remedies.  相似文献

The influence of a natural (citric acid) and two synthetic chelates (HEDTA, EGTA) on Cd phytoextraction with radish was studied. The experiment was conducted with Cd treatments including 0 (control), 5, 20, 60 and 100?mg?Cd?kg?1 soil. When plants were fully developed, the designated HEDTA, EGTA and citric acid were applied to establish experimental treatments. Ten days after chelate applications, soil and plant samples were taken. Results indicated that synthetic chelates can considerably increase Cd concentration in soil solution compared with citric acid. Among the applied chelates, HEDTA provided more significant influences on soil solution. Cadmium concentration in both shoots and roots of radish was increased due to enhancing influence of chelate applications on Cd concentration in soil solution. Cadmium concentration in radish shoots was more than that of roots. This can be attributed to higher bioavailability and solubility of Cd in soil solution. In all treatments which received HEDTA, the cadmium concentration in both shoots and roots of radish was increased more than that of other applied chelates. Although HEDTA is more efficient in phytoextracting Cd than other chelates, due to durability of synthetic chelates toxic effects on soils, we recommend using larger amounts of light acids.  相似文献

Hydrochemical Changes Over Time in the Zahedan Aquifer, Iran   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Groundwater in the Zahedan Aquifer located in the arid southeast of Iran was chemically characterized to understand both the nature of the alluvium aquifer and the effect of human activities, specifically sewage disposal on groundwater quality. Concentrations of major cations and anions in the Zahedan Aquifer are much higher than concentrations observed in groundwater of similar settings. Although the nature of the aquifer and climatic parameters have affected the chemistry of groundwater, human impacts on the groundwater quality are more significant. The electrical conductivity in some areas of the Zahedan aquifer increased up to 7,500μS/cm in 25 years. Human influences in some areas are so prevalent, that the groundwater type changed from a Na+-HCO3 - in 1976 to a Na+-Cl- type in 2000. The impact of human influences on the groundwater quality is also indicated through observed nitrate concentration up to 4.81 meq/L in the urban area.  相似文献

Many organizations worldwide have implemented Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) 18001 in their premises because of the assumed positive effects of this standard on safety. Few studies have analyzed the effect of the safety climate in OHSAS 18001-certified organizations. This case–control study used a new safety climate questionnaire to evaluate three OHSAS 18001-certified and three non-certified manufacturing companies in Iran. Hierarchical regression indicated that the safety climate was influenced by OHSAS implementation and by safety training. Employees who received safety training had better perceptions of the safety climate and its dimensions than other respondents within the certified companies. This study found that the implementation of OHSAS 18001 does not guarantee improvement of the safety climate. This study also emphasizes the need for high-quality safety training for employees of the certified companies to improve the safety climate.  相似文献

A series of activated carbons with high surface area were prepared from walnut shell using chemical activation with ZnCl2. In this research the carbonization stage was carried out at 500℃. The performance of the synthesized carbons evaluated in adsorption of benzene and toluene from waste gas. The influence of impregnation ratio on the characteristics of synthesized activated carbons as well as their adsorption capacity was investigated. The ratio of activation agent to walnut shell was selected in the range of 0.5-2.0 wt/wt. The synthesized activated carbons were characterized using XRD, SEM, BET and FTIR techniques. The highest activated carbon production yield was obtained at impregnation ratio of 1.5 wt/wt. The XRD analysis illustrated that peaks intensity decreased with increasing impregnation ratio showing that amorphous property of samples was increased. The SEM analysis revealed successful pore development in synthesized activated carbons obtained at high impregnation ratios. The surface area of the activated carbons increased with increasing impregnation ratio and its maximum value reached 2643 m2.g 1 at impregnation ratio of 2/1. FTIR analysis indicated that the relative amount of different acidic surface groups on synthesized carbons was a function of impregnation ratio. Experimental results for benzene and toluene adsorption showed a high potential of employing synthesized impregnated activated carbon for treatment of waste gas. Generally, the amount of VOC adsorbed on the surface was affected by physicochemical properties of synthesized activated carbons.  相似文献
