Abstract

This investigation numerically examined the cutoff aerodynamic diameter (da50) and the sharpness (GSD) of the particle collection efficiency curve of impactors with a finite impaction plate diameter. Results revealed that the inertial impactors have a limited cutoff aerodynamic diameter at different air velocities. The extreme value of the cutoff aerodynamic diameter increases with the nozzle diameter (W)/the plate diameter (Dc). The computed da50/Dc values of the impactors increase with W/Dc at various Reynolds numbers (Re) and with the nozzle-toplate distance (S)/Dc when Re is 100. The value of GSD slightly increases with W/Dc for Re of 10 and 100, although the effect of S/Dc on GSD is not evident at various Res. The particle collection efficiency curve of the impactor with a lower Re is less sharp than that with a high Re at various W/Dc and S/Dc values. Statistical equations closely fitted the obtained numerical results for Res of 10–3000. The equations are useful for directly calculating the cutoff aerodynamic diameter and the sharpness of the particle collection efficiency curve for single round-nozzle impactors with a finite impaction Dc.  相似文献

Abstract

An efficient venturi scrubber system making use of heterogeneous nucleation and condensational growth of particles was designed and tested to remove fine particles from the exhaust of a local scrubber where residual SiH4 gas was abated and lots of fine SiO2 particles were generated. In front of the venturi scrubber, normal-temperature fine-water mist mixes with high-temperature exhaust gas to cool it to the saturation temperature, allowing submicron particles to grow into micron sizes. The grown particles are then scrubbed efficiently in the venturi scrubber. Test results show that the present venturi scrubber system is effective for removing submicron particles. For SiO2 particles greater than 0.1 μm, the removal efficiency is greater than 80–90%, depending on particle concentration. The corresponding pressure drop is relatively low. For example, the pressure drop of the venturi scrubber is ~15.4 ± 2.4 cm H2O when the liquid-to-gas ratio is 1.50 L/m3. A theoretical calculation has been conducted to simulate particle growth process and the removal efficiency of the venturi scrubber. The theoretical results agree with the experimental data reasonably well when SiO2 particle diameter is greater than 0.1 μm.  相似文献

This study has investigated numerically the influence of particle location on the number of charges per charged particle in the 10–40 nm size range at the outlet of a needle charger by simulating flow field, electric field, particle charging, and particle trajectory at various conditions. The results show that the total (i.e., diffusion + field charging) number of charges per particle increase with decreasing ratio values of radial location at the outlet of the charger due to the particle position close to the needle tip. It has also been shown that in the outlet region of the charger there is a critical radial location at which the number of charges per particle is a maximum; this critical radial location represents the point at which the charged particle trajectory becomes closest to the needle electrode. The maximum value of number of charges increases with increasing Reynolds number and slightly increases with decreasing applied voltage for particle diameter larger than 20 nm. The maximum number of charges per charged nanoparticle increases with increasing particle diameter. In addition, the minimum ratio value of radial particle location decreases with increasing Reynolds number for various particle diameters.

Implications: In this work, the influence of particle location on the number of charges per charged nanoparticle at the outlet of a needle charger has been investigated using numerical models under different conditions. The results demonstrate that the radial location affects the number of charges per particle at the outlet of the charger. The maximum number of charges increases with increasing particle diameter, and the minimum ratio value of radial particle location decreases with increasing Reynolds number. The numerical models explain and quantify the number of charges on the charged particle in the 10–40 nm size range from the outlet of the needle charger at various conditions.  相似文献

The effect of ambient relative humidity (RH) on hourly particulate matter (PM10) readings of beta-gauge monitors has been studied using two collocated monitors in the field. The inlet air of monitor 1 was conditioned with water vapor to increase its RH, whereas monitor 2 operated normally in ambient conditions. Experimental data showed that PM10 readings of monitor 1 were nearly the same as monitor 2, as long as the RH of its conditioned incoming air did not exceed approximately 80-85%. However, when the RH exceeded approximately 80-85%, PM10 readings of monitor 1 became higher than monitor 2, and the difference increased with increasing RH. The measurement of pressure drop across the filter was also conducted, and the data revealed that the increase of pressure drop per unit of PM10 concentration decreased when RH was higher than approximately 80-85%, as compared with the case when RH was lower than 80-85%. This is perhaps because of more porous structure of deposited particles in the beta-gauge monitor when RH is greater than approximately 80-85%. The theoretical calculation using an evaporation model and a thermodynamic model has been conducted to simulate the beta-gauge readings. The results show that the theoretical PM10 concentrations using the evaporation model are in better agreement with the actual beta-gauge readings than those using the thermodynamic equilibrium model.  相似文献

Experiments have been conducted in a wind tunnel to measure the emission factor of re-entrained particles from a dry or wetted dust sample with a smooth or rough surface. Effects of wind velocities and water contents in the sample on the emission factor also were investigated. The results show that re-entrainment of particles can be controlled efficiently in a certain period of time when the surface watering density is between 60 and 80 g/m2 at a wind velocity from 7 to 15 m/sec for both smooth and rough surfaces. After the effective period is elapsed, which depends on wind speeds and environmental conditions, water will eventually evaporate, and re-entrainment starts to occur again. The experimental water evaporation rates at different wind speeds are in good agreement with theoretical values. After watering for 210, 130, and 110 min at average wind velocities of 0, 2, and 4 m/sec, respectively, the dust sample must be replenished with water to avoid dust re-entrainment.  相似文献

The atmospheric concentrations and emission rates of CH(4) and CO(2) were studied at three sites of the Fu-Der-Kan closed landfill and after as the multi-use recreational park in northern Taiwan. Atmospheric CH(4) and CO(2) concentrations of closed landfill were 1.7-4.6 and 324-409ppm, respectively. CH(4) and CO(2) emission rates ranged from 8.8 to 163mg m(-2)h(-1) and from 495 to 1531mg m(-2)h(-1), respectively. Diurnal variation was noted with higher values at night than those in daytime. After creation of the park, atmospheric CH(4) and CO(2) concentrations were 1.8-3.1 and 332-441ppm, respectively. CH(4) and CO(2) emission rates ranged from -1.1 to 2.3mg m(-2)h(-1) and from -135 to 301mg m(-2)h(-1), respectively. There were no notable diurnal variations in either atmospheric concentrations or emission rates.  相似文献
