In this study, the particulate matter (with an aerodynamic diameter <10 μm; PM10) profile of Turkey with data from the air quality monitoring stations located throughout the country was used. The number of stations (119) was reduced to 55 after a missing data treatment for statistical analyses. First, a classification method was developed based on ongoing national and international (European Commission directives) legislations to categorize air zones into six groups, from a “Very Clear Air Zone” to a “Polluted Air Zone.” Then, a Geographic Information System (GIS)-based interpolation technique and statistical analyses (correlation analysis and factor analysis) were used to generate PM10 pollution profiles of the annual heating time and nonheating time periods. Finally, the coherent air pollution management zones of Turkey, based on air quality criteria and measured data using a GIS-based model supported by statistical analyses, were suggested. Based on the analysis, four hot spots were identified: (i) the eastern part of the Black Sea region; (ii) the northeastern part of inland Anatolia; (iii) the western part of Northeastern Anatolia; and (vi) the eastern part of Turkey. The possible reasons for the elevated PM10 levels are discussed using topographic, climatologic, land use, and energy utilization parameters. Finally, the suggested air zones were compared with the administrative air zones, which were newly developed by the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Forestry, to evaluate the level of agreement between the two.

Implications: The evaluation of air quality profiles of specific regions is important in the development and/or application of an effective air quality management strategy. Factor analysis (FA), together with correlation analysis (CA), provides useful information to classify air pollution management areas over regional networks that have historical time-series air quality data. In this study, which relied on a FA- and CA-based methodology, the coherent air pollution management zones of Turkey after using a GIS-based model were suggested. Policy makers and scientist can use these suggested zones to construct better air quality management strategies.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to examine the effects of vegetation change from a native broadleaf forest to a coniferous plantation on selected soil properties, including soil texture, pH, organic matter, total nitrogen (N), total phosphorus (P), exchangeable cations (Ca2+, K+, Na+), and cation exchange capacity (CEC). Results showed that the amount of clay particles, Ca2+, and K+ values significantly increased, whereas Na+, total N, and organic matter and soil pH values decreased on the treatment plot after vegetation change. Soil acidity also increased and soil textural group changed from moderately fine-textured soils (clay loam) to medium-textured soils (loam) under both control and treatment plots. Organic matter, total N, and Na+ values increased, whereas Ca2+ concentration decreased through time on the control plot. Soil pH, total P, K+, and CEC did not show significant changes through time on the control plot.  相似文献

This paper evaluates the effects of long-range transport patterns of air masses to the regional PM profile in a megacity, Istanbul, Turkey. Five-day hourly backward trajectories were obtained by the HYSPLIT model for selected episodic events in 2008. Self Organizing Maps (SOM), a very powerful classification tool, was used to cluster these trajectories. In total, eight cluster groups were obtained. All of the clusters were evaluated with respect to inhalable particulate matter (PM10) concentrations observed in Istanbul for the arrival times of the trajectories. Istanbul is generally under the effect of trajectories in three clusters (1, 2 and 4) (52% of all pre-selected episodic events), which have higher mean concentration values than the mean value of all the samples. These clusters typically make significant PM contributions to Istanbul's air quality. PM loadings of the trajectories in these clusters were attributed to massive anthropogenic activity over all of Europe and southwestern air flow most likely carrying PM10 atmospheric particles originating from the Saharan Desert and other global dust generation regions located in the northern part of Africa.  相似文献

This paper evaluates possible long-range source contributions to the PM10 profile of Istanbul, Turkey. A novel method for classifying PM10 episodic events resulting from long-range transport, as opposed to local ones, was implemented. Hourly PM10 mass concentrations from ten stations distributed throughout Istanbul during the year 2008 were used for this purpose. Hourly backward trajectories for the arrival of air masses to the center of Istanbul for the year 2008 were calculated using the HYSPLIT (Hybrid Single-Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory) model. Significant episodes from these backward trajectories were selected and employed in Potential Source Contribution Function (PSCF) analysis to estimate the possible contribution of long-range PM10 transport (LRPMT) to observed PM10 concentrations. The PSCF results showed significant seasonal variations. Based on the results obtained, PM10 concentrations observed in Istanbul during summer and autumn are not heavily affected by LRPMT. Mediterranean countries, especially those of the central part of northern Africa (northern Algeria and Libya) are the most significant potential PM10 contributors to Istanbul's atmosphere during springtime. During winter, Balkan countries, including the Aegean part of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Croatia, as well as northern Italy, eastern France, southern Germany, Austria and the eastern part of Russia, were the most important LRPMT source regions for high PSCF values.  相似文献

Dimensional stability and mechanical performance of polypropylene thermoplastic composites filled with sunflower stalk (SS) flour at 30, 40, 50, and 60 wt% contents of the SS flour were investigated. The thickness swelling and water absorption of the specimens increased with increasing SS flour content. The modulus in the flexural and tensile improved with increasing SS flour content while the tensile and flexural strengths of the specimens decreased. The use of maleic anhydride polypropylene (3 wt%) had a positive effect on the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of the polypropylene thermoplastic composites filled with SS flour. The melting temperature of polypropylene decreased with increasing content of the SS flour. The degree of crystallinity of filled polypropylene composites between fibre loading of 0–30 % by weight was higher than that of unfilled polypropylene composites. However, further increment in the filler content decreased the degree of crystallinity. The obtained results showed that SS flour could be potentially suitable raw material in the manufacture of polypropylene composites.  相似文献

Metal concentrations were determined in water, sediment, and freshwater fish samples (Squalus cephalus, Barbus esocinus, and Barbus xanthopterus) collected from Karakaya Dam Lake, Turkey, to estimate the risk of human consumption and pollution. Metal concentrations differed between the species (p??Zn?=?Cu in water and Fe?>?Zn?>?Mn?>?Ni?>?Cu in sediment. In general, the accumulation order of elements in the tissues all of the species sampled were found as Fe?>?Zn?>?Se?>?Mn?>?Cu?>?Ni?>?Cd in muscle, Zn?>?Fe?>?Mn?>?Se?>?Cu?>?Ni?>?Cd in gills, Fe?>?Zn?>?Se?>?Mn?>?Cu?>?Ni?>?Cd in liver and gonad, and Zn?>?Fe?>?Cu?>?Mn?>?Se?>?Ni?>?Cd in kidney. It was concluded that the fish from the dam lake are not heavily burdened with metals, but they should be controlled periodically to avoid excessive intake of trace metals by humans, and to monitoring the pollution of aquatic environment.  相似文献

Bursa is one of the largest cities of Turkey and it hosts 17 organized industrial zones. Parallel to the increase in population, rapidly growing energy consumption, and increased numbers of transport vehicles have impacts on the air quality of the city. In this study, regularly calibrated automatic samplers were employed to get the levels of air pollution in Bursa. The concentrations of CH4 and N-CH4 as well as the major air pollutants including PM10, PM2.5, NO, NO2, NOx, SO2, CO, and O3, were determined for 2016 and 2017 calendar years. Their levels were 1641.62?±?718.25, 33.11?±?5.45, 42.10?±?10.09, 26.41?±?9.01, 19.47?±?16.51, 46.73?±?16.56, 66.23?±?32.265, 7.60?±?3.43, 659.397?±?192.73, and 51.92?±?25.63 µg/m3 for 2016, respectively. Except for O3, seasonal concentrations were higher in winter and autumn for both years. O3, CO, and SO2 had never exceeded the limit values specified in the regulations yet PM10, PM2.5, and NO2 had violated the limits in some days. The ratios of CO/NOx, SO2/NOx, and PM2.5/PM10 were examined to characterize the emission sources. Generally, domestic and industrial emissions were dominated in the fall and winter seasons, yet traffic emissions were effective in spring and summer seasons. As a result of the correlation process between Ox and NOx, it was concluded that the most important source of Ox concentrations in winter was NOx and O3 was in summer.  相似文献
